Popped in with my 6 year old for her first time seeing the mud pools. i haven't been here for over 30 years and it hasn't change from what i remember. Not as mush activity as i though there would be but it not expensive and kills a hours looking around. I would say its a bit dated now and... More

Hells Gate sounded like a tourist trap in my travel guide book, but the idea of a mud bath was interesting. It was such a great time, and not a trap at all! We took the walking tour along the park, and saw the most amazing geothermal pools. Earlier in the day we visited other geo pools, and by far,... More

My wife and I recently visited and got the Ultimud Package which includes entry to the geothermal park, 20 min mud bath, sulphur bath, 60 minute massage, and tea/muffin afterwards. The geothermal park itself is very cool, and was one of my favourite parts of the experience- I'd definitely recommend this as it's fascinating to see. The Sulphur Bath was... More

We visited here for the twilight experience with the mud bath and sulphur pool experience ($75 per person). The main changing areas are outdoors and communal which makes it quite a cold experience on a cooler day! There are a few private shower rooms where you can change if you prefer. When we had changed we headed for the area... More

Nice place, great experience of the thermal area and made even better with a free guided tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and a local. But the place is looking tired and feels like a family run business. Shop service for food or water was painfully slow when groups come in.

Totally enjoyed our afternoon there. Started with the walk then the mud pool and spa.... Definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience Thermal & Volcanic Activities.

Every time we visit Rotorua I love visiting a different thermal area. So I was returning after a number of years. I love the walk through the different parts of the thermal reserve. There are lots of informative notices to explain the different types of thermal areas. We had the combo mud and Sulphur pool. The smell is something I... More

We didn't want to come to Rotorua and not try one of the mud pools! So we found hell's gate. $75 gets you into the mud pool for 20 minutes only where you can slather yourself in mud and then move into the hot water thermal pool. We were there early so we got mud pool to ourselves, which was... More

We hadn't visited any of the thermal parks, so this was a real eye opener, completely different from anything else. The contrast between the thermal areas and the forest is remarkable. Well signed and good information sheet meant that the self guided walk was great. Also treated to a half hour massage which was wonderful. This is not the place... More
