We visited here from Santa Ana and had a nice afternoon. There are restaurants along the shore where you can eat and enjoy the views.

Lovely lake in Coatepeque. There are few restaurants along the shore so you can eat some nice food while watching the beautiful scenery of the lake. It only takes less than 1 hour from san salvador. Prepare swimsuit if you want to dive in.

A great day trip from anywhere in El Slavador. We drove from Santa Ana by recommendation of a local in the town. What a beautiful surprise it was; we sat at the lookout for hours before going to the lake. Mostly locals and very amable....More

Beautiful view, great people, food, and fun. The only bad part is the access. You need a vehicle 4x4, preferably. Local government needs to invest on better roads. Cheap but great entertainment, you can tour the lake in a covered boat for 8 people for...More

Driving down the mountain you can spot the lake through the tree branches and plants roadside. After deciding we'd rather ride on the lake rather than eat, we drove further down bouncing on unpaved, rocky roads to our destination. We took a boat ride to...More

Arriving at the lake took us by surprise because we didn't realise that we would drive up the Volcano to get there, so our first sight was a wow moment. It is a stunning sight and you can't take your eyes off of it. We...More

Deep blue waters, many restaurants and water sports hubs around, surrounded by high hills and Santa Ana volcano on one side, this is a very scenic lake to spend a day trip. Very close to San Salvador, can be covered in a day along with...More

Just 10 mins off the highway. Great little roadside restaurants to sit and enjoy the view of the lake.

This by far was the best view I have seen in El Salvador. I viewed the lake from the road and from Cerro Verde. There is a snake landmark viewpoint that gives you the best alignment and view of the lake. There are plenty of...More

The lake itself is fantastic, but once you get down, there is not much to do. Lots of private properties so you do not even get close to the water and you dont even see the lake. You have to visit one of the restaurants...More

Hello, Melanie: I wasn't as adventurous as KS&HC. I hired Nahuat Tours to take me on an all-day tour of the Volcano Complex at Cerro Verde National Park + an excursion to Lake Coatapeque. Just Google them or look them up on... More

I'd recommend renting a house online. Most of the properties are private houses. There are 2 Turicentros "tourist centers" but the only hotel is Torremolinos, and its not very well maintained, check out the reviews here on... More
