- gsgman777Columbia, Illinois706 contributionsNo dolphins, but a great spot to hang and relaxWe decided to spend a little time looking out at the water and taking a beach walk. It was nice, quiet and comfortable. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see any dolphins in the water but we enjoyed looking for some shells and rocks on the beach.Visited May 2022Written 13 January 2023
- Cora BScherpenzeel, The Netherlands1,369 contributionsO, I love to be beside this sea sidePaid, small car park, loads of info, benches, short walk to lighthouse and beach. Excellent spot to watch the dolphins, on a rising tide, caching their meal. Great views towards Fort George. Benches to sit and enjoy the scenery.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 23 May 2023
- Anuj_MithaniMumbai, India3,887 contributionsBeautiful spot on the Black IsleStopped by en route to Dornoch from Inverness. Paid parking available, but fills up quickly. Sadly no dolphins for us that day, but wonderfully scenic and tranquil spot. Beautiful walk past the lighthouse along the long stretch of beach, past the golfcourse towards Rosemarkie.Visited April 2023Written 29 May 2023
- franbex39Bere Regis, United Kingdom37 contributionsLove seeing the dolphins. Great experience and lovely atmosphere. This was such a great day seeing the dolphins at Chanonry Point. They came up so close. You have to check the tide times and get there an hour after low tide but we actually got there really early as we knew parking could be difficult. It's a lovely atmosphere as so many looking with you and it's so exciting each time the dolphins swim by. Really worth a visit.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 June 2023
- Catriona S2 contributionsDolphin HavenThe prime site to view the Moray Firth dolphins. Pick a time when the tide is on the turn, and coming back in. Parking available but the car park is quite small. A short walk required to get down to the waters edge.Visited June 2023Written 2 July 2023
- ArramatticYorkshire, United Kingdom773 contributionsFree! No need to go on a tour, parking cheapJust WOW! Dolphins:- Go on the rising tide, although the dolphins appeared to be there a lot at any time Park in the carpark, its cheap - £2 for 2 hours, £3 for 3 hours (no campervans, only cars) walk along the beach past the lighthouse, stand on the point thee & marvel at the dolphins almost within touching distance. Recommend dressing warmly/for rain too. The dolphins just seem to frolic right in front of you, just the best experienceVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 July 2023

There is some seating and a lovely long stretch of beach . The view over to Georges fort is great and the water is crystal clear . If the dolphins are there all well and good but go anyway.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 July 2023

When in Rome...when in Ross and Cromarty
Point is ... you really have to go here 🤗
Everyone holding phones and cameras at the ready to see a bit of blue planet magic
They say best time to see our dolphin friends is after the tide changes as they chase the fish in ... we went about 10.30am and saw 2 bobbing heads which was for us luck enough
Guess it's a right time right place thing with these big fellows
Next time then we may see them jump 😀

Went there to see dolphins after waiting a while saw a couple of dolphins feeding and a seal. Only problem was the car park had no campervan parking and little spots but the parking attendant was very helpful and guided us to free parking a mile up the road with a coastal walk.

Best time of the day to go and see the dolphins?
Eddie W
Prestwick, UK517 contributions
Went 2 days in a row....be there at LOW TIDE time for the area. That allows you to get a space ( maybe ) , and see the dolphins come in with the incoming tide ( about 1 hour after LOW TIDE ). Saw about 3/4 on the first day and about a dozen on the second.

Hi. Is the path to here from either Fortrose or Rosemarkie pushchair friendly?

there's not a path as such. Other than the standard road and pavement scenario, the final road leading to the point is through the golf course. This road has several sleeping policemen throughout its length and has shirt cropped grass edges. In my opinion the route is push chair friendly.

Can you use a barbeque at Chanonry point?

I suppose you could use a disposable one on the little beach here but make sure to extinguish it before you leave and remove all rubbish.

Tides can help and you can look them up on line tides4fishing
Though we have seen dolphins there at all sorts of times, Note there is a good fish and chip in Fortrose McGinty's and benches make a great area to enjoy them in the weather allows.

Hi,
Does anyone have any advice about the best way to get here with no car (only using public transport)?
Many thanks

Bath, UK35 contributions
You need to get a bus 26a 26 c maybe others, from inverness, final destination could be Cromarty. get off in the small village /town of Fortrose by Anderson pub. walk on further 200 yards , pausing at the coop shop for refreshments, walk on 50 yards or so see signpost pointing to right to the Point and golfcourse. Take the right Ness road and follow all way down. through golf course to end. dolphins on left if present. let us know what you see. ideally 3 hours after low tide to 2 hours before high tide, take binoculars and warm clothes No toilets at the end.,

What time of year is the best time to spot dolphins at Chanonry point?
DodLT
Kirkwall, UK51 contributions
The dolphins are resident so can be seen all year round. As with all sea fishing the best time is at the start of the flood tide, when the incoming tide sweeps in with fresh plankton and small fish, which the bigger fish eat, which get eaten by Salmon, which is what the dolphins like....

What time of year is it best to spot dolphins
nessie2
Lichfield, UK172 contributions
We were there in August and one evening there were dolphins everywhere. 2 days later however, nothing! I advise being patient and taking hot drinks (plenty of them), chairs and warm clothes! I think all year round is possible but it's best as the tide is coming in. There's more advice online if you key in moray dolphins.
Good luck!
