Fumbled by so much trash
Sep 2019 • Couples
I found out that the park is privately owned by one guy and not owned by the government .
He has inside park ,guide trips organized with 4x4 ranging from 400 pesos to 1200 pesos( u can visit the park by urself )poney and horse ride, vendors all over the park selling food and beers, cabins in park(x2 more expensive than outside 1/4 mile away ),restaurants....
Hundred of 4x4 driving thru the park( like 101 in LA on Friday by rush hour ) with very loud music including right in front of the water fall than u cannot even hear the waterfall !
Such a beautiful place where peace is not to be found anywhere .
Finally and the most disturbing to me is the amount of trash all over the park including children diapers, hygiene pads, beer bottles, water bottles,Fritos bags. Etc.... so sad . That is absolutely disgusting !!!i I would recommend the owner to take pride in ownership and protect his investment by having all the people working for him , to spend few hours collecting trash all over the park and pay them !
Such a beautiful park and such a disappointment !

nice place to visit

The road until getting up there worth the trip, and then the park is lovely. If you are a nature lover, stop by.

Fun Place to spend the day exploring
Jun 2016 • Couples
Even though the rainy season hasn't begun this is still an incredible place to spend the day, hiking, relaxing and exploring. We're excited to return after a couple rains when pools will fill and more lush vegetation. Don't hesitate in checking out this place and bring a picnic or use one of the grills.

WOW what a great place this was....well actually we came across this park by mistake. As two bikers travelling through we saw the sign and thought we might adventure in...and WOW so fantastic! the aesthetics were incredible.....waterfalls...hiking...and the rock formations are truly out of this world. everyone should make the effort to get up this park and feel the great energy of this place.

We rented a small car ( not 4 X 4) in Mazatlan and drove there on the new highway to Durango, an unbelievable experience, excellent road with unbelievable views, tunnels and bridges.

Mexiquillo itself was deserted the day we were there. IT is VERY remote and we had to park our car about 1km in as we could go no further due to the terrain. Hiked to the cascadas which were very nice, had a picnic and got back to our car. There must be some superb hiking in there but we were too scared to go wandering off alone. On our way out we saw the park office ! Lots of garbage all over the place on the trail and at the waterfall.

Our hotel was charging $129/person for a 12 hour your to Mexiquillo, so we saved a lot ( toll on highway there about $60) and car was $30. With 4WD could have gone way in to the park and seen more.

All in all looks like the place is a work in progress.

Mexiquillo Cabanas
Sep 2012 • Family
I found the Mexiquillo National Park a wonderful place for hikers, naturalists, and families. The cabins or cabanas met our basic needs. There was a large group of us of 16 or so. There are two sizes of cabins. The larger cabins are much nicer to be sure. The regular cabins are fine but do not sleep 6 as advertised unless you have brought sleeping bags. Also you might want to bring some extra plastic/reusable utensils and plates as there are few.

All in all the cabins are clean and a nice place for a small family who do not want to camp outside and the personnel at the front desk (cabin) are indeed very nice.
