Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Took a nice 3 mile long hike into the jungles surrounding the Ngorongoro crater and seeing the caves where the elephants get there minerals from the earth. We actually got to see two elephants very closely on foot with our armed ranger while we were heading to the caves. The tour guide and the ranger make this trip into the jungle an awesome experience. Waterfall was beautiful, but that hike was very intense up and down to see waterfall.

After 5 days of safaris on the bumpy roads, a great way to stretch your legs and to learn more about nature.
The guide was knowledgeable and learned us about the different plants and animals.
It was an interesting, moderate hike, approx 2 hours in total.
The hike leads you to the caves and a beautiful waterfall.

A nice walk, yet only a point, as the “caves” – or externally caves seem like a washout – are unspectacular. Our tour guide, who unfortunately was not allowed to go with us, only the ranger, had already recommended leaving early in the morning or late afternoon, as that is when the elephants are most likely to be found. So those who are not afraid to see an elephant or a buffalo up close in the open space can experience something during these periods. For us it was a rush through the forest as our ranger actually wanted to finish as soon as possible. A point , as the forest path was quite nice and a welcome change from the many sitting in the car.

You go out with very knowledgeable guides to the elephant caves. The walk to the caves offer a good view of the valley below of the coffee plantation. The walk can also include, if you like, a very steep walk to the falls, well worth it, but hard for young children or seniors. The caves themselves are great when there are elephants around, but when they are not there, people can walk over to the caves and see the holes of the elephant tusks. It’s a good walk that took about an hour and a half.

Bring high resolution binoculars as no body can see the cave from anywhere on the path. Path itself is muddy, slippery and the entrance fee one pays, one wonders, for what?

Can’t ding it too much for what it is, but you should know it is mud. A couple of miles of it. We saw no elephants.

Wildlife is hit or miss, of course, but given the low probability of seeing elephants I would not recommend for the non-adventurous.

The waterfall was cool and our guide was very knowledgeable.

Interesting to see the caves where the Elephants mine their minerals having seen so many Elephants up close in the surrounding national parks!

The walk is very pleasant through the forest and the guides are very knowledgeable.

We walked to the Elephant Caves from Gibbs's Farm. We were guided by an informative guide to told us more about elephant behaviour, and pointed out many examples of the presence of elephants in the area. We also had the opportunity to visit the top of a very tall waterfall, although there was just a trickle of water flowing over it the day we were there. There are some lovely views from that area that we enjoyed. It was a pleasant afternoon's walk.

Although we wish that we saw actual elephants on our hike to the Elephant Caves, the guided hike was informative and it was very cool to see the caves that the elephants have carved out to get minerals. We felt like we were inside an exhibit at the zoo. We also felt very safe with Mr. Po as our muscle with a machine gun if we encountered any angry leopards. Luckily, Mr. Po did not have to use his artillery, but being as it is rare to spot a leopard I might have taken my chances.

We had a guide through Gibbs Farm, Gabriel, and he was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. He must have rattled off a dozen cures for various ailments (including cancer)!

We saw 17 elephants that day! Gabriel said there are usually only two or three, so don't count on such a bounty, but I was surely blessed. They gouge the caves out with their tusks so they can eat the dirt. They need the minerals to make their bones strong.

It was a wonderful hike through a gorgeous setting! Watch your step, since you share the trail with quite a variety of animals. Gabriel saw a mongoose, which was out of sight by the time I looked up, and we saw scat for Cape buffalo and some gazelles.

Gabriel may have had a gun on him, but I wasn't aware of that. I felt completely at ease with him taking the lead.
