Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not to far from the Waingapu city.. easy access, relaxing beach to just sitting around while enjoying the View.
People also go here for photo taking at the mangrove next to the beach. Just make sure the timing of the riptide if you want to Take picture here.
Besides that, the local provide a toilet to wash yourself (very rare in Sumba)

An average flat beach where you cannot swim. It has a little mangrove site on the left side, where there are too many local instatourists taking photos and some drones. A good site just to shortly visit. Sunset in December wasn't so appealing as it sets behind the mangrove site. Nice "warungs" along the beach selling fresh coconuts, beer, and instant noodles.

A beautiful place full of garbage and plastic (as in the 90% of the touristic Indonesian sites)...
We found a puppy dog dying on the sand under the sun just next a drink and food place...
All the people that are working in that beach don’t care at all, probably they are the most responsible of this dirtiness.
I think that if all of them could spend 10 minutes to take out the garbage, this beach could be a heaven, now it’s difficult to find a place where to put the towel free of garbage.
Really, really sad. They have no respect for the nature and the amazing place where they were born.

In the morning we arrived at the beach. Amazing palm trees and purity welcomed us. The ocean was pure and beautiful blue. We bathed and sun-bathed all day. In the evening, the sun ended with a beautiful sunset.

the beach is not the best you can find in Sumba, but well enough to spend sometimes there and take a bath.

Go for low tide and walk through the mangrove. Great photo spot!
Very nice beach just for hanging out. Several food stalls directly on the beach under the palm trees, serving basic local meals and drinks. Cold beer too! Many locals come here, especially during weekends and it was lots of fun for us to walk around and be the main attraction for them. Beautiful sunset can be seen from the further part of the beach during high tide or through the mangrove during low tide.

If you are a beach lover, the Walakiri beach should be your A-list for exploring the beautiful beaches in the eastern part of Indonesia. The white sand and calm waves would pacify your mind and soul.

Hi, may I know if it is easy (and safe - most important) to rent a car and self-drive to here for shooting photos with the dancing mangroves? Any recommended hotel / lodging places around there too?

Hi Roger.. this place has easy access from downtown Waingapu even you can go by scooter roughly around 30 mins ride you’ll get there ... no need to worry people here are very friendly , no lodging or hotel nearby ,you have to return to The town. hope this helps 🤙🏾🤙🏾
