About
Skippered & bareboat sailing days or weekends in the Solent for non experienced & experienced sailors, families of any ages, groups of friends or individuals. We have a fleet of privately owned Dufour sailing yachts from 36ft to 41ft all based on the Hamble river, near Southampton, Hampshire. We are an RYA yacht sailing school covering the whole syllabus from RYA Start Yachting through to Yachtmaster Coastal & Offshore. We are also UK sales agents for the new range of Dufour Yachts.

The yacht was clean (as in spotless).
The yacht was spacious (eight berths and two heads).
The instructor was knowledgeable, patient, and good-humoured.
The solent is an excellent place to learn. It is sheltered so you can enjoy the wind without having to deal with big waves.
There are hazards to improve your navigation skills and at the end of the day's sailing there are plenty of places to moor where you can get good food and drink.

This is a long overdue recommendation of Chris Warwick, Steve and the team at Universal Yachting. We are so happy with our Dufour 390. The spec they suggested took account of our experience, and likely use and enjoyment of the boat( especially in-mast furling) as a short handed crew.
Throughout the build process we were kept informed , and updated on progress as the finished vessel on her transporter progressed from La Rochelle to the Hamble, and final fit out occurred. Then we had some familiarisation trials . Since then they have arranged her yearly maintenance and Steve answered any questions we had.
Build quality has been superb, the boat feels very safe and the team at Universal have been so helpful.

An amazing family run company . From the moment I made an initial enquiry it was professional , on time, nothing was too much trouble
My daughter went with a few friends for the 5 day Day Skipper course and came back full of funny stories ,gained experience, tiredness, knowledge and wonderful memories.
The Skipper was amazing , kind, fair, knowledgable , funny, generous and experienced.
They went along the Isle of Wight stopping in diffeent places .
I can not recommend this brilliant company enough. Living along the south coast we are spoilt with various companies that offer Day skipper but Universal Yachting has to be the best , i wouldnt go anywhere else from now on .

We had Stuart, the UY chief skipper to train the family on our own boat for a week. Despite the weather not playing nice for some of the time, we learned more during this week than I thought possible and my family now feel confident to sail in most conditions we are likely to find ourselves in. Stuart took everything in his stride and bearing in mind 2 of our teenage crew hadn't sailed before, he was reassuring, inclusive and made it fun to learn! We also sailed our younger kids (aged 4-9) back from Cowes in some rougher water, which they loved! I would certainly recommend Universal Yachting if you'd like some own-boat tuition.

Dealing with Melanie, Chris and their team of skippers is always a pleasure. Organised, knowledge and helpful. Nothing is too much and always leads to a great day under sail on a great line up of Dufour yachts. Highly recommended for a great days sailing. Ideal for all capabilities and skills yes

Everything about our experience with Universal Yachting was wonderful. From communication prior to booking our course, questions that arose before the course, emergency change of instructor, to post course documentation, questions were all handled efficiently by the friendly Melanie. During the course we had great instruction by Tim Aisher relevant to our specific plans for sailing while also checking off all the RYA requirements. We highly recommend Universal Yachting for a quality sailing course.

Have just finished our third charter in 18 months with universal. Their boats are excellent and the team behind it great. We have been as a family with very young kids, as a group of friends aswell and the boats are well suited to the solent which has so much to offer. Nothing to say apart for a class set up.

Great day out on the Solent, do as little or as much as you like towards the actual sailing, so pulling of ropes, steering etc or just sit back and relax. Superb value on their 'pop-up' sailing days, £80 each for 8 hour trip!

Great ‘pop up’ day sailing on the Solent across to the Isle of Wight. Gentle skills coaching from the skipper allowed everyone to get involved as much or as little as they wanted.
Our skipper, Peter, was lovely and highly experienced, making the day even more enjoyable.
We were keen to get more familiar with the Dufour 412 as we were chartering one in the coming weeks.
Would highly recommend and we will certainly be back 😊 next time with the beers!
