Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an excellent pub if you're looking for craft draught ales. There is an impressive choice here.
The trouble is...the pub is so popular that finding a table outdoors proved impossible. So we sat indoors and sweltered!
More outdoor seating needed to make it 5 stars.

We love this pub and drive from the other side of Colchester to visit.
Simon is friendly. The other patrons are welcoming. Beers aren’t bad either!
Cheese on Sundays and there’s always bands on.
We came for carols at Christmas, was an amazing turn out.
Great 👍🏼

This pub is a really friendly place to visit, great riverside views, Simon, Dawn, Emma, Dani and Matt are excellent, very hospitably and very friendly, as are the locals. You are always made to feel very welcome. A lovely traditional pub which is dog & child friendly. Lots of guest beers, Cheeseboard on a Sunday. It is a great place all round.

We visit the Ye Olde Albion pub with our Sailingship and mooring in the front of the pub in the afternoon duuring our holiday at the eastcoast of England. At that time is was high tide and the owner of the pub welcomed us. It was saturday and later in the afternoon it became very bussy in the pub and on the field in the front of the pub at the seasite where our ship was mooring. In the eventing it became low tite and it was not deep enough for our ship witch makes a serieus angle and came against the wall. However it was ferry bussy in the pub and the pubowner give us directly a lot of help and assits us with the inspection in the dark of our ship. When everting was save the owner invite us for a drink on the huis against the stress. Al the People where very friently en help us with our probleem and In the middle of the night we sail Safety and with a smile away to an other destination. Ye Olde Albion Pub Thanks for your help and kindness. Liesbeth and Tom from Holland

A lovely, old fashioned 'family' pub that does great beers and ales. Dogs always welcome too. A different beer for every day of the year! Sunday is a gentle day with free cheese and biscuits available for all. Host and Hostess, Simon and Dawn are very welcoming as are all of the staff.

Unlike it's tourist counterpart on the same road, this is a traditional friendly Real Ale pub. The Albion doen't serve food, but it serve some of the best Dixieland jazz you will hear in Essex. The jazz happens on the first Sunday afternoon of the month 2 - 4:30pm, with an excellent blues band on on alternative 1st Sunday's 4 - 7pm.

Visited with our two dogs. This is a traditional ‘boozer’ that serves a good selection of beers and bar snacks - there is NO food. The dogs were welcome and locals friendly. Bar service was a bit slow but aren’t all good pubs in busy periods? Thoroughly enjoyed it.
