The wife and I visited this island for 4 nights 3 days, we stayed at Sichang my home.
Do not confuse this island with Koh Chang, that is another island.
To get here we travelled by Uber taxi from Bangkok, the fare was 912 B including tolls. He dropped us off at the pier at Si Racha. The distance was 131km and took exactly 2 hours.
The boat across takes about 45 minutes and costs 50 baht per person. The sailing was pleasant enough.
On arrival at the pier on Sichang we were met by our hotel (well bungalow) owner, but you would have no problem getting transport to your hotel.
There were much more things to do and see on the island than we expected. Trip advisor only lists three restaurants on the island, but in fact there are many more, possibly another 20-30 places to eat. Not all can be described as a restaurant as such, but serve good food at a fair price with somewhere to sit and eat it. There are also many food stalls so you will never go hungry. Most are happy to let you just have a drink and sit outside.
Not many western tourists visit here, this is a good thing as there is zero hassle and most, if not all, of the time pay the same prices as the locals. All the locals we met were friendly and on one occasion a lady stopped to give us a lift to the pier for free.
Although the island is small there is loads to do here. We hired a motorbike and went all over the island, traffic is quiet here and there are almost no cars on the road, just the odd van. There are many things to see such as Buddhas and temples as well as the Kings old residence. There are even geocaches on the island (google geocaching).
There is an ATM, 7 11 type shop and laundrette on the main road. On DTAC mobile coverage was very good almost everywhere.
At the beach we were surprised how good the snorkeling was. We just snorkeled to the rock to the left of the main beach and the water was very clear with loads of fish. I read some parts of the island have Sea Urchins but we never saw any here. We had lunch at the beach, again a nice meal at a fair price.
We really enjoyed our time here and we were sad to leave.
If you see the bar/ food place in the pic with " I Love Freedom", you must have some food and a beer there. The guy is a seriously good cook. Its on the same road and same side as the ATM. He plays music so should be easy to find.

From Sriracha, our group of four including my wife and our Thai friends boarded a 9 am ferry for the 45 mins. trip to Ko Sichang. After reaching the island, we hired a tuk-tuk to bring us around the island. We noticed that there were few cars on the road. Most people were moving around in motorbikes or tuk-tuks. Buildings and homes were simple structures. So were the shops and restaurants. Residents led simple lives. It is a place where watches and clocks seemed unnecessary.
Our first stop was San Jao Phaw Khao Yai Chinese temple which was built on a cliff overlooking the sea. When approaching the jetty on board the ferry, the red-coloured temple stands out against the hill slope. At the temple, we visited 2 caves and one had a deity carved into the rock. The temple offered a panoramic view of the jetty and Sriracha mainland in the distance.
From the temple, we headed to Vashiravut Bridge located on a hill. The viewpoint offered a panoramic view of the rugged coastline and the open seas.
Then, we headed to the former royal summer palace of King Chulalongkorn. Remains of the foundation structure for the palace is visible, as are the pool and bathing outhouse. A big, old tree provided shade to the bathing outhouse and it was interesting to reminisce that it had once provided shade to royalties. Other than a Victorian designed green-painted building (which was closed at the time of our visit) and 2 grey-painted snack kiosks located near the picturesque private jetty, the rest of the building structures were no longer present.
From the palace, we proceeded to Taam Pang Beach which is considered in travel guides as the only proper beach on Ko Sichang. Tables and deck chairs lined the short beach much like what you would see in Pattaya or Jomtien but on a smaller scale. There were few guests around when we visited on Saturday morning. Water looked clear and some stretch of the beach was rocky.
We spent three hours touring the island with the tuk-tuk. Ko Sichang has a certain charm of its own in the way it preserves the simple lifestyle of its inhabitants.

The island is really small, not too touristic. It is near bangkok and easy access from it (bus to sriracha + ferry to the island, 147 baht in total).
The island is lovely, really peaceful, perfect if you want to get away from Bangkok. There is one main beach on the Island, but there is several others small hidden one if you wanna be more secluded. Although the main beach is desert as well during the week.
I would recommend to sleep at Jodee's guesthouse, it is super clean and the owners are the nicest people ever. There is all the comfort you can expect (good bed, fridge, airco, hot shower, free wifi) and the room does look really nice too. You can also borrow their bikes to do the tour of the Island, there is few temples to visit
To eat I would recommend Pan and David, a restaurant which is on the main road, next to Jodee's guesthouse. It is run by a couple and they prepare thai and western food. A bit more expensive than the normal thai prices, but still very affordable. The quality of the food is amazing, they have the best thai food, but also amazing italian food. They import themselves some product from Italy and cook only with free range chicken.
The only negative point of the Island is that it is quite close from a oil tank farm, so the water is probably polluted. If you walk around the island there is litter everywhere, and also a lot of plastic in the water. But I guess it is more or less the same in everywhere in thailand unfortunately.
To sum up, the island offes a nice gateway from Bangkok and the others very touristic Islands,nice to spend two or three days.

I and my girlfriend were looking for a quite beach or island without the usual touristic services. We found this island very close to Bangkok searching on Google, just take a bus from Ekamai bus station to Si Racha and get a 45-minutes ferry for 40 baht. You will find a lot of Thai people going on holiday near you, beatiful beaches but no so many hotels, lot of temples, good fresh fish in restaurants. Funny and cheap experience and very friendly local people. You can rent a motorbike with no contract or deposit and do the round trip of the island in minutes. We stayed in a sort of resort with "Boat Houses", unused boat modified to become a comfy room in front of the sea with air conditioning, fridge and balcony. In the area of the houses you'll find a barbeque and the best restaurant of the island. We enjoyed so much doing kayaking in the beaches, riding the inner path with the motorbike, meeting some Varanus (monitor lizard) and wild boars crossing the road.

Koh Si Chang is a very nice day Trip from Pattaya.
You can take the Minibus from Sukhumvit Road to Sri Racha - Robison Mall -
or you take the white Songthaew from Naklua to Sri Racha - Old Town - for
30,- ThaiBaht.
From there you can walk aprox. 30 minutes or take a TukTuk to the Pier.
At the Pier is a nice Temple.
The Boat/Ferry to Koh Sie Chang goes nearly every hour.
A good time is 10 am. The Ferry cost 50,- ThaiBaht per person one way and
the Ferry needs aprox. 45 minutes.
Try to get a Map on the Pier in Koh Si Chang Info Office.
The Best way to get around is, when you take a Tuk Tuk for a Roundtrip
for 250,- ThaiBaht.
You visit many beautiful places like a temple with a nice view,
the Summerpalace of the Kings with a huge Park, Beaches and more.
Have much fun.

The island is still a quiet place for taking a holiday. It has much restaurants and bungalows in all kinds of luxury and prices. It was my second time to visit the Island and I sure go for a third time.

We stayed here for five days and we hope it could be longer! No tides of tourists, no cars, no noise on the island! You only have motorbikes, tuktuk, dogs, cats and boars wandering in the street:)
We only met a few tourists on weekend, but on weekdays you only see few local people here, no toursits at all. It is so nice and quiet on the island. But it is also convenient to find restaurants and shops. And there are many things to do. If we dont want to go anywhere, we just relax in the swimming pool or read a book under the frangipani trees in the park on the beach! it was such a luxury!
We would definitely go back here in the future!

.... probably not worth staying too long. On a motor bike the island can be explored from one end to the other in about 2 hours. The beaches were mediocre at best and not pristine, but were typical of the beaches on the Gulf of Thailand. Accommodations are hit and miss as is dinning and both are expensive for what you get. I stayed 4 nights, 2 would be adequate. The best part of the trip was the ferry ride over, a deal at 50 BHT. The other highlight were the sunset look out spots on the West side of the island.

After spending nearly 3 weeks backpacking and changing places constantly in mainland Thailand we wanted a nice break with possibility to swim and without distant travels to the south. Ko Sichang seemed to be just the place and reviews in guide book and on internet made us wish to go there with hope and joy.
We did but it wasn't what we expected in the least. The hotel we have chosen based on description was closed for refurbishments but we decided it was just a piece of bad luck - it happens everywhere.
The place we finally stayed - bungalows at the only real beach - was mostly unattended and it took our tuk-tuk driver awhile to find somebody to give us a key and a price. We were informed that we can't stay more than 2 nights, as later on it is booked. Despite obviously big interest there was virtually no staff, no-one to ask anything (it was even hard to pay for it as you had to locate someone responsible). In the evening we went to the famous Pan and David restaurant which... happened to be closed and finally we had to have meal in one and only opened restaurant we had found (passing along some 4 closed ones). The meal was good but horribly overpriced.
The worst of all was the beach - as the island is practically neighbouring the port (far reaching into the sea as ships get loaded and unloaded by barges sailing to them) - the water was so dirty that I had some problems with making myself step into it and after few minutes run for a shower. The next morning we left Ko Sichang (originally meant to be our destination for 4 days) and went further to the east on Ko Samet. I wouldn't go there again though I know we had some bad luck too and it may be better when more things are opened, still, the sea was very dirty for whatever standards you have

I just came at 25th of July without any plan.
Came to the pier with perfect time - 15mins before the boat depart. Ticket price is 50 THB (one way). It took around 45mins to arrive at Ko Si Chang.
When you just arrived, you can choose what kind of transportation that you would like to explore the island with. There are 3 choices: Rent a bike, rent a motorbike (250THB-350THB), also private charter tuktuk.
I chose to rent a motorbike and bargain about the price cause I only gonna use for around 4 hours. What I love in here, when we rented the motorbike, it's ready to use (full fuel) so we don't need to add more cost for the fuel.
It's not really long time to explore this island.
FYI:
1.There is one 7-eleven in the center of the island and there's Krungthai ATM.
2.Local people also very friendly and helpful.
3.Chairs on the Tam Phang Beach are free.
4. Some shops (clothes and food) on Tam Phang Beach area.
5. Becareful when you drive - lot of dogs and boars.
6. Boat from Sri Racha pier available at 07.00, 11.00, 15.00, and 19.00
7. Boat from Ko Si Chang pier available at 09.00, 12.00, 13.00, and 17.00
8. Ko Si Chang suitable for all - solo, couple, families.

How often bus run from Pattaya to Sriacha and how much.

lots of busses and minivans, just flag them down on sukumvit highway. very cheap

You can leave from Si Racha quite late by bus, van or taxi. But since the last ferry from Koh Si Chang to Si Racha leaves at 6 PM, thos determines when you need to leave the island.

Can you suggest a destination that's under the radar and not far from Bangkok? My time is limited so I don't want to spend hours just getting to a place. I thought this island was a possibility but it doesn't sound very good after having read your review. I'm all ears. Thank you.

How can you get there the easiest way from Suvarnabhum airport? We'd be interested in going there in January.

They have a bus every hour to sri racha. It takes about 1.5 hours. The bus (minibus) costs 110 baht. On floor 1 door 8 at the airport you can get the tickets (sri racha tours). The people at the information desks can help you. When you arrive in sti racha you can walk to the pier (koh loy pier) or take a tuktuk. From the pier there is a boat every hour for 50 baht. It takes around 40 minutes. I dont know what time the last ferry starts. I guess something around 5 pm or so. Hope this was helpful 😊
