This place is a short local bus ride from the Shuzenji train station. A good place to spend two to three hours, including lunch in the area. The temple itself is not spectacular but the old trees are. The walk along the river on both...More

On our way to Izu Pennisula, we stopped by this little village, traditional temple, modest bamboo forests and fairytale red bridges. Don't forget to bring your little towel to enjoy open air onsen foot bath.

Founded by Kobo Daishi, this temple is perhaps the most important building in town. There is much history associated with the temple and the town and we were glad we had read up on it before walking around. When we visited the autumn colors were...More

Visited the place during my trip to Shuzenji. It is one of the few places to see in Shuzenji. It closes at 5 PM.

The temple is interesting by itself and together with near sights (mini bambooforrest and another shrine) certainly worth a visit. The temple is frequented by worshippers, which adds to the atmosphere. In the evening the main gate is closed, but the temple is still accessible...More

If you are in Shuzenji then definitely visit the temple, it’s right in the centre and if you’re there at 5pm a Shinto monk will ring the very large bronze bell.

Central located temple with a nice court, the temple itself unfortunatley is not open for the public (at least wasn't when we were there). There's also a museum at an extra charge.

Not saying that this place is bad, but busy temple is just not my thing personally. We managed to take a lot of pictures with the red leaves though. Let's say we enjoyed the red leaves but not the crowd.
