Arrived late at 13h00 and in perfect weather, so we decided to attempt it. The drive to the parking area is slow and difficult, with the last few kilometers on gravel. The decent down to the caldera is steep and challenging. We hit the floor...More

If you have some half a day and would like a short climb with a lovely view this is the place to be, but you have to do it as early as possible as clouds start to build before noon. The surrounding landscape is quite...More

While the road to get there is a bit adventurous (curvy, last couple of km bumpy dirt road), even the view at the parking area is simply amazing. Since we got there a bit to late to do the whole walk around the vulcano, we...More

Wonderful panoramic view of Piton de la Fournaise and Formica Leo. Incredible experience but wake up before sunrise and get here early in the morning to see the volcano without clouds.

We walked there within 2 hours, same with return. It is longer than expected - all reviews said its easy trek, but do not be fooled - easy but long! I have seen people attempting to walk it in flip flops, with no water or...More

This is definitely a must see when visiting Reunion Island. It is amazing to see how the volcano has changed the landscape. Please note that you need to be at the top by 8:30 as the clouds will come rolling in later in the morning....More

As a rule of thumb, always go early. We started our hike at 6am, it was sunny but by 8am, mist and clouds rolled in. I was quite disappointed but just kept on going. Finally we got to the crater and it was clear! We could...More

We walked to the top of the piton (about 2.5 hours) to get a view of the Dolomieu crater. What a view into the volcano but also of the scenery around! We were lucky, blue sky and plenty of sun were present. Highly recommended.

High on the list of 'must-dos' on Reunion Island, but you do need to be prepared. Set out as early as possible to maximise your chances of good weather and minimise your time walking in the hottest part of the day (we were staying on...More

This is definitely not a hike for the faint hearted. It is a 6 - 7 hour hike from the car to the summit and back. During our hike it went from overcast and cold to rainy and ended with 4 hours of blistering heat....More

Hi, there is a lookout point that is very close to a big parking lot. It will give you views of the area surrounding the volcano and of the volcano in the distance. Definitely not a hike to do with a little one though. But... More

Hi, We visited in April and had a nightmare trying to book a guide - no response/slow/very expensive (Eur200+ day). Eventually we just hired a car/got sim card for Google Maps and drove there. Its easy to get to on... More
