After descending the highest mountain in west Africa, we made our way towards the Tagbo waterfall, where we had to hike for about 40 minutes to the waterfall. The hike was fun and adventurous as we got to see so many species of butterfly and plants, we even plucked a pawpaw on our way, we saw a very little but beautiful cave. The forest is so serene and beautiful, and at the waterfall OMG it was so cold there and the water could freeze you, the caves surrounding the water are so beautiful with greenish plants all over them. Tagbo Falls is a beautiful waterfall at the end of an easy 45-minute nature walk. Sign in at the tourism desk (there's a bathroom inside), pay a nominal fee, and head off with a local guide who will show you the different plants and trees and explain how they are used in local culture. (We tipped our guide, a 17-year old looking to make some money for school fees). We went in the dry season so the water was gentle, but it sounds like the pool under the waterfall can be dangerous for swimming during the rainy season. Hike out the same way you entered; you can then opt to climb up the nearby mountain that overlooks Togo (or do that first). There's a small shop at the base to buy water, soda, and snacks.

I visited the falls with a group of 15 in November (just at the start of the dry season). There was a very pleasant 45 minute walk to the waterfall which is largely flat and our guide was happy to talk about the local plants and answer any questions we had.
The wind at the base of the waterfall is quite powerful but the swimming was great. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area to climb the mountain.

Probably, the best combination of two amazing tourist attractions in the Volta Region can be found in Liati Wote and Gledi. The highest mountain in West Africa, by name Afadza and Tagbo Falls which is regarded as a sacred river by the village folks. Both Gbledi and Liati Wote are in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region and public transport are easily available from Hohoe the district capital. Mount Afadza 885 in hight gives fantastic panoramic views to surrounding communities, forest, mountains, valleys, lake volta etc. Mount Afadza, covered with forest has lots of flora and fauna, about 300 species of butterflies and 33 species of mammals which includes, mona spot-nosedmonkeys. There are other intesting sites that the local dwellers have access to and are easily made available to the vistors through the village guide such as the chalk cave. Activities such as traditional drumming and dancing and preparation of the local cooking oil could be arranged for overnight visitors. One can stay overnight in a local family or in a newly built guest house which was opened just last year, 2017. Take note: You can reach the Tagbo falls by making an easy, 45 minutes walk from the Liati village amist several cocoa and coffee farms. The untouched forest with it tall trees form umbrella which give the visitor the shade needed for the easy walk to the fall.

Such a beautiful place, reachable by a walk along farms (okra, papaya, coco yam) and through a forest with butterflies. Had a wonderful swim in the fall!

Oh the young guides are so gentle and kind. We thought we could go to the falls in 35 minutes. He said we will take 90min. To get to the falls. He was right. They were patient and never rushed us! The guides are so pleasant to work with. My niece had the wrong shoes on and the next thing I knew he had donated his slipper to her. Fantastic customer service. Wow!!
