This location of this castle is ideal. The idea that the Crown Jewels of Scotland were once secreted here is historical and bears out its significance. Well kept and easily traversed once on the grounds make it a pleasant time. Getting from the parking lot or from nearby Stonehaven could be problematic for the physically challenged. Numerous, numerous stairs approach... More

We found out online that visitors can actually do a nice scenic walk from Stonehaven's harbour to the castle. The website stated a 15minutes walk but in reality it is about 45 minutes (including short pauses for photo taking). The walk is easy and very very scenic. We started walking at about 9am and by the time we reached the... More

Absolutely blown away when we saw this place. Unfortunately we were too late to go inside but will return to do that another day. A short walk from the visitor car park and the stunning castle appears before you. It is a beautiful bit of coastline with big drops, you have to be careful where you are putting your feet... More

Our trip to Aberdeen was primarily to visit Dunnotar Castle. Photos don't do the castle justice, the car park was good, the walk to castle is good, but you do need decent foot wear, not heels etc. The views on the approach are breathtaking, there are some very steep cliffs, not fenced off by over the top H&S requirements. It... More

This is one of the best castle on the shore front that I have visited, go early in the morning and you will get to see wonderful sunrise. Also I was lucky to spot few dolphins from the castle view point. The castle is well maintained, and it has steep steps to climb down and up. there are no gift... More

You don't need to pay to see it from different angles, be wary the path is slippery if you go on a wet day. If you want to go inside you'll have to pay 7gbp but you need na hour at least.

The castle grounds are gorgeous- took us two and a half hours to explore. The ruins are in excellent condition and you can tell what many of the rooms used to be. Make the walk down to the beach if you can, the view is worth it! Shoes with good tread are a must because many of the mud and... More

I've been a few times already. I bring every visiting friend that comes to Aberdeen to see the castle. None have been disappointed.
