We drove from Aberdeen on our way to Ballatar and stopped here - we didn't go inside the castle (you have to pay and it was pretty cold) but the views around the castle and the view of the water was breathtaking - would def come back here

We took a walk here on New Year's Day to the castle from our hotel and sadly it was closed. It was still worth the walk though as it is a very evocative location and building, truly beautiful.

Nestled on the shore high on cliffs, this ruin is spectacular. Fortunately for us we visited in inclement weather and that only added to the mystery and moodiness of the place. The fact that there is ancient history at this site makes it even more intriguing. Definitely a must see if you are in the area.

So many beautiful castles to see in Scotland and Dunnottar has to be on anyone's short list! If you are visiting the northeast you need to make a stop and tour Dunnottar Castle. The castle is perched atop of an 'island like' peninsula and well defended. It is in ruins but a couple of buildings have been restored like the... More

A fantastic experience of a well fortified castle, with stunning views and brilliant explanations of the features of the castle. The tickets are reasonably expensive, but I'd say it's worth the money, in a lovely location with lots to see, not to mention lovely places to walk. A real day out!

If you like photography, historical sights and a lovely walk in the fresh air, then you'll love Dunnottar Castle. Well worth a visit! The snack van isn't always open, so take your own - apart from that, enjoy!

Hi Missswolf, thanks for your review. The snack bar is usually open the same hours as the Castle, but was closed for one day (yesterday). Jim More

Secluded on the cliff, the castle boasts its excellently preserved ruins of the place and magnificent view from every single corner of the castle. A visit in the summer months should be more convenient because of the harsh wind and cold weather in wintery months. The Castle itself is extensive and one might not find it that much more interesting... More

Huge ancient castle, now in ruins but well worth the very long walk to get there. We were there on a cold wet day which added to the mystery and eeriness.y

My family and I drove from Edinburgh to see this as the main sight outside Edinburgh in Scotland. Really worth the effort as the view is nothing short of spectacular! The Castle was closed due to "high winds", and we struggled to make our way to clip-edge and soak in the surroundings. We have to hold on really tight to... More
