Best castle we visited in Scotland. So many places to discover. The setting is extraordinary. We may have spent 2.5 hours. Walk from stonehaven (about 1.2 miles) was incredible. You can pick up the war memorial along the way. The fields, cliffs, sea, and shore...More

This famous old castle now is only ruins but located out on a very rugged point and would have in days of old controlled this area of coastline. It is very picturesque with beautiful cliffs, rocks, with a backdrop of green pastures some with grazing...More

Fascinating ruined castle in a dramatic location on the water. It's not easy to access. Lots of steps down followed by almost as many steps up, and you get to do it again on the way out, but well worth it.

First time Visiting Stonehaven when we came across Dunnottar Castle. If you can manage the stairs down then you may as well pay the reasonable 7 pound entry. We enjoy a look around ruins and as dogs are allowed we thought we’d incorporate it in...More

It has quite a few steps, you park in the car park then walk down steps to the bottom of the castle then walk up into the castle. I have asthma and frankly had to pause a couple of times both ways but it's amazing once you... More

It’s quite a walk from the town, also the access involves lots of outdoor stairs down cliffs and up again. I use a walking-stick so can no longer visit. Shame, because it is fascinating.
