Visited for the first time in over 20 years. There is something here for everyone, from those with a casual interest in railways, right up to the dedicated enthusiast. This is a great day out for the family, a with huge array of artifacts and memorabilia from the UK and elsewhere.

Really good for young children. (and young at heart adult men!) The staff are mainly volunteers, in love with their trains, and were more than happy to explain how a steam engine works for the children. Museum was interesting for all ages. Will go back again, plenty to see.

This wonderful hidden gem of a place is so worth a visit. Built from one man's hobby 40 years ago it has grown into one of the best collections of railway diesel engines, carriages and railway related items you will find in the UK, next to York. With several of their exhibits being used in period dramas and films, then... More

The museum track layout is quite extensive and the museum collection of rolling stock and artefacts is amazingly heterogeneous. As well as the to-be-expected shunters – both steam and diesel – there is a Class 47 and a couple of Underground cars, 1959 stock. Tucked away in a corner is the old works car from the Southend Pier Railway. There... More

I went to see the locomotives, but what I particularly enjoyed about the visit was the wide range of coaches and wagons, many dating back to pre-grouping days. Most were in very good condition with restoration work going on. The proprietor of the museum spotted me taking particular interest in things which led to an invitation to look round the... More

Lovely day as always, ride on train to see santa and all the children were given lovely gifts. The only thing is it lacked atmosphere. ....the train could have played Christmas music and could offer the drinks on there as we were waiting on there for a very long time at the station whilst every carriage saw santa. very good... It is very hard to believe that this was never a real country station on the national rail network due to the wonderfully nostalgic atmosphere of all the authentic buildings and platform - a real step back in time. You are always assured of a very warm welcome from the friendly and dedicated owners and volunteers - the entrance cost... More

Had heard about Mangapps in the railway press and as a rail enthusiast it had to be visited when in the are. Very out of season and so very few people there - still open though. Easily found and we were greeted by a terrific group of people. Male and female making tea coffee selling food and driving trains. I... More
