We went mid morning just before it got busy in the car park. Absolutely awesome waves on this beach, you could just sit and watch them for hours. Worth the drive out of the towns, to see nature at its best.

This beach usually doesn't have many people which is great to runaway from all the summer confusion. However the sea is quite dangerous here, having known people who lost their lives on it, so best be careful.

If you are looking for a long, broad beach at an entirely untamed Atlantic, this is it. Winter time you may well have miles and miles at your own disposal.

Praia do Salgado is a fantastic, deserted beach. It's very sandy and very beautiful. But beware, the waters are treacherous. The waves, caused by the Nazaré canyon, come crashing onto the beach and the sea bed shelves dramatically. Indeed although there are no warnings about...More

Were on this beach today. While climbing the mountain, you could see the islands of Berlenga. The view from the mountain is excellent. The beach is very suitable for walking, few people, it seems that you are alone.

Excellent beach for children - lots of amenities close to hand - gets a bit crowded at the weekend, but good on weekdays.

Great beach. Beware, nudist at the far right. Great little restaurant just off the beach. Surf can be a bit intimidating but there are lifeguards on site. One of the best I've been to in Portugal

We intended to spend the day on the beach at Sao Martinez, it was so crammed we couldn't park anywhere and we're stuck in traffic jams. Found a back route that bypassed the town totally and led us past fields to Salgado. It is a...More
