I could have spent longer here- it was so fascinating! And the surrounding countryside was beautiful!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 November 2023

It was beautiful work that was created before the pyramids and prior to our visit I had never heard about. The mounds were huge and our guide was able to explain many different facets of the designs and shared many different facts about the area.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 July 2024

It was included as part of a visit to Newgrange. Quite honestly, I like it better, it's less commercial and more unspoiled. While you couldn't go inside any of the passage tombs, it was amazing! The carving on the kerb stones was impressive as well.
Definitely add to your visit if you're in the area!

Newgrange gets all the attention, but Knowth is just as interesting and even more scenic. It just lacks the dramatic (and well deserved) feature of the sun shining at Newgrange. But we had a grand time walking around Knowth. Come for Newgrange, but stay for Knowth.

We booked at too short notice for the New Grange tour but Knowth was awesome and worth the visit. The visitors centre felt new and was really good with lots of info. Short bus ride to the actual site. Interesting tour and opportunity to look around by ourselves. Good video at the end of the tour. Scenery fantastic.

While Newgrange has a very special place in Irish lore & heritage, Knowth is a very amazing place, too. Newgrange is fascinating as you can go inside the passage tomb & have somewhat of a spiritual experience. While you cannot enter the structures at Knowth, they are definitely worth a visit. Knowth is humbling & awe inspiring in its layout & dimensions. The Bru na Boinne visitors center provides a great intro, overview, & connection with nature.

Our tour company chose this stop and it was well done. We had an informative talk by the ranger and then were able to walk on the top of the pre-historic mound. Amazing 360 views of this gorgeous countryside. Beautiful.

Part of the tour from Bru Na Boinne - and absolutely amazing. Great guides, so much information, and amazing to be able to walk on top of one of the tombs and see the views from the top. The carvings were just phenomenal.

This is not an easy one to write and does not reflect the monument itself, which is magnificent. The review reflects the tourist attraction which leaves much to be desired. First off, you have to go to the Bru na Boinne Center. I followed the directions to Newgrange (both car GPS AND road signs). When I got there, I was helpfully told that I had to go to the Center for tickets and tours. Significant delay, and that costs you spots in line. When I get to the center, I get tickets for Knowth first, followed by Newgrange. You are placed on a bus and taken to the monument. I understand why they do this, there are working farms around the area and the roads are narrow. Tourist congestion is a real problem. But you end up literally locked in for the duration of the tour. Miserable weather outside, 40 degrees and driving rain. We are taken into the monument into a small room off the entrance which was carved there for tourists. The tour guide gives a 15 minute talk; a lot of it was pretty basic stuff but the info about the monument was interesting. She talked at length about the art in the monument, and then told us if we wanted to see more we could go to the OPW website and see more. Wut? My brain shut down at that point. I didn't fly to Ireland, cram onto a bus, and get told that if I want to actually see the thing, I would have to go to the internet. In other words, I could have stayed at home and read Wikipedia. Took the bus back after glowering for an hour and saw a number of buses lined up for Newgrange. I noped the heck out of there and skipped the Newgrange tour.
For the record, Newgrange is magnificent. I went there in 1996 and it was a great experience. Knowth is magnificent and I would have loved to see it. The Bru na Boinne center is very nice. But the location as a tourist destination overall disappoints massively in my opinion. Large crowds and limited access to the actual monuments. If you have a car, go to Dowth, and Fourknocks.

I'm trying to schedule events to see. What is a decent amount of time to spend at Knowth?
Written 30 May 2017
Hi Maureen
The tour takes 1hour 20 including his transferred, this is a fixed time. You will need 3 hours all up to do both new Grange and Knowth. You get 20mins at each site to do your own thing, not a great amount of time but it's what you get.
