Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On the advice of the guide at the Burren Centre in Kilfenora we drove round Black Head from Ballyvaughan to Fanore. The views of the sea and over to Galway and the Aran Islands are amazing. It was a really sunny and clear day. There are a few stops to pull in and we stopped at Murrooghtoohy viewpoint. It is also a great spot to view the Burren stones. The road is very narrow and windy and it is a bit tricky when you meet a bus of which there are plenty. A lovely drive.

The geology around here is quite spectacular. Every mile yields another surprise. This lighthouse is a beauty in its simplicity.

Day trip to Blackhead, I know the area well, have travelled very often on my way Doolin and the Cliffs. This time we stopped just after Blackhead lighthouse on the turn to Fanore and there is a straight stone wall that leads, as the crowe flies, from the road right up to Caherdooneerish Fort. It is an easy climb, you just stay with the wall.
The day was overcast but still incredible views, looking over Galway bay at the Connemara mountains and further in the bay to Galway city. Looking out west you have the three beautiful Aran islands and to the south you see the vast Burren landscape and Fanore sandy beach, I will return on a sunny day...

You can really commune with nature here at Blackhead. Stroll atop the limestone down to the Atlantic Ocean and be the only person around and at one with nature. Healthy. Rewarding. Beautiful. Make sure you have your flask in the car for a cupán tea to treats yourself.

Starting out we knew this was going to be along walk. It was 26 km and we walked it in reverse. We started at Fanore Beach and headed inland, walking across stone-lined trails that seemed like they were probably roads in olden days. There were amazing stone outcrops that looked quite druidic in many locations and made for great photo opportunities. And then we came to do the return part of the Loop that would bring us along some spectacular sea-views and looking back across Galway Bay. Part of the walk along this section was in poor condition, surprisingly overgrown and difficult for walkers underfoot. In parts we felt it was actually dangerous -- we understand now that there are plans to improve it. This stretch of our walk was slow and because of it, the whole walk took us 8 hours!

The Black Head Loop is a 26km circular walk that starts at Fanore beach. It ascends the Burren peaks and drops into the river valleys. Finally (when completing the loop anti clockwise) the walk follows the black head itself providing stunning views across the Galway sound.

Bonjour,
