Fælledparken continues into Outer Oesterbro, where Parken (Denmark's national soccer stadium) is located. In the middle of Outer Oesterbro you’ll find Østre Gasværk, which is a popular theatre located in an old (brick-wall) gas cylinder. Travel to the easternmost part of Outer Oesterbro to reach Nordhavn, a harbour area where most of the development is over water, showcasing Copenhagen's constant development. Nordhavn is home to the UN City and to pricey penthouse apartments which, on a clear day, can see all the way to Sweden.

This is such a unique experience. When visiting a country, it's so easy to never meet a local aside from hotel staff. Meet the Danes is a tool for getting folks in touch with everyday people who really want to welcome you to Denmark.
First off the tool was really effective in finding the right match. Where, when and who. The hosts can be selective about who they host, too, so a good match us more likely.
Our hosts met as at the train station and walked us to their home. They greeted us warmly and served us a delicious Danish meal with drinks to please and explore.
They showed a real interest in who we are and shared about themselves. They told us about Denmark and gave us advice on where to go and what to do. They even kept in touch while we travelled and met up with us again to see how it all went.
We built a real friendship and it was very hygge!

We had an amazing evening with our hosts. We sat outside in her their beautiful garden and took a walk in the neighborhood before dinner. We loved getting the immersive experience of a local. The food was delicious with multiple courses of local ingredients and traditional dishes. Great conversation to learn about each others cultures. Highly recommend!

This was absolutely the highlight of a wonderful visit to Copenhagen. Our hostess, Christine, was an absolute delight. The food was absolutely delicious and she shared so much about her culture, her family, and life in Denmark. We all got along like we'd known each other all our lives and we even made plans to meet up in California later this summer! If you want to learn more about Denmark than just the usual touristy stuff, I can't recommend this experience highly enough!

Our evening with Torben and Mia was one of the highlights of our time in Copenhagen. They were welcoming and gracious hosts. We didn’t want the evening to end!

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening with our hosts Torban and Mai. Their home was easily accessed by public transportation. It was a lovely evening, so we sat outdoors overlooking their charming backyard and had wine and appetizers. At the time they had a cat that had three young kittens which was fun.
The conversation was mostly about family and travel. The food was delicious, Torban is a great cook. We had fresh fish, fresh vegetables and meats on the grill , and plenty of wine! We had a delicious traditional Danish dessert made from fresh strawberries and rhubarb. At the end of the evening. Torban even walked us back to make sure we got on the right train back to our place! What a great way to get a feeling of Danish living and Danish hospitality. Highly recommend meet with Danes!

We had an amazing evening at Christine's! She prepared an amazing meal, including making vegetarian substitutions while still keeping it authentic and Danish. Her friends were welcoming and fun, before we knew it, it was past midnight. Would 100% recommend to anybody. Thanks again for a great evening Christine!!

My evening with Mai and Torben was a wonderful experience. Torben prepared a meal that was absolutely delicious and new to me. The best course of the evening was a mouth-watering smörebröd with Stenbider. A first to me - but definitely not the last time I will have it. However all the other courses were to die for, too. A meal that could well compete with the star-restaurants. Congratulations to Torben and Mai! Apart from the meal, the couple are lovely, adventurous, easy to communicate with and open and curious about the stranger, in this case me 😉, at their table. Thank you both for an unforgettable experience ! (also for the very useful tips for the Faroe Islands)

What a wonderful evening we had meeting Marianne through Meet the Danes! She and her friend Berta prepared a lovely, delicious meal and we had hours of wonderful conversation. We could not have asked for a better host and a more enchanting way to spend our first evening in Copenhagen! Meet the Danes is a wonderful way to initiate cultural exchange and develop friendships. Thank you to the company and most significantly, to Marianne for one of our most memorable travel experiences!

We were most fortunate to be hosted by Christine and Mads at their beautiful home in the Alsgarde area, just north of Helsingor, Denmark. Their property overlooks the sound between Denmark and Sweden and we were able to watch the majestic ships pass by as we sipped on a cocktail; very memorable. You could not find more gracious and generous hosts anywhere. Aside from sharing their personal histories, along with the history of the area, they were most interested in our backgrounds and views. It made for a festive evening of ongoing conversation. There were four of us, along with Mads, Christine, and their delightful daughter, Emilia. They kept the wine and beer flowing while we ate multiple courses of delicious, local fare. We had an appetizer plate with salmon, halibut, cheese and the like. Then a healthy and fresh salad from local vegetables. Our main course was pork tenderloin, perfectly cooked. And finally, a pavlova dessert with fresh berries. It was like a gourmet meal from a fine-dining restaurant. The dinner was supposed to run from 6:30 - 10pm, but in our case it started at 6pm and we had to rush out at 11:30pm to catch our train to Copenhagen. Mads was good enough to pick us up and drop us off at the train station. This was a very memorable evening that will stand out among all of the interesting experiences we had had in Denmark. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time meeting locals around a table of tasty Danish food. I was afraid it might get awkward, but it was the exact opposite and we had a great experience we will remember for a long time. Would recommend it to anyone looking to connect and experience Denmark and it's people.

It depends on the host. Some responded quickly, some didn't. You might want to send a request to other hosts as well. Hope it works out for you.
