Another ancient landmark in Batti
Oct 2020
Newly renovated the ancient gate; well-populated place in Batti. This is a place to visit to keep your foot prints in Batti.

Batticaloa Gate
Jan 2020
Batticaloa Gate is monument place adjacent to Batticaloa lagoon. That place was used as port to connect Puliyanthivu with the mainland of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. The place believed as landing site of Rev. William Ault, who was the first Methodist missionary to Batticaloa, in 1814. His statue can be seen closer to the Batticaloa Gate.
Hotels and many activities like boat ride available for visitors. Thai area is very good for your vacation. Batticaloa Lighthouse, Boat ride in lagoon, Batticaloa fort etc are attractive places.

Iconic monument, good place to enjoy an evening
Sep 2019 • Couples
Iconic monument located just close to the lagoon and inside the gandhi park. A lot of shady areas available with benches to sit and enjoy the lagoon view. Best to visit in evenings to avoid hot sunshine.

Guarding the entrance to Batticaloa from the sea
Apr 2019
This ancient arch gaurds the entrance to the port which connects Puliyanthivu (island) with the mainland of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. The place is believed to be the landing site of Rev. William Ault, who was the first Methodist missionary to Batticaloa,
in 1814. His statue is nearby. Soooo beautiful when viewed from the lagoon side by boat!

place to sit by oneself...
May 2018
This is an absolute must if Batti is in one's itinerary. Comes to 'existence' by the late evening with folks coming in -always in twos and not- so - rarely just solitary souls. Light from the widely spaced lamp posts and soft Indian music add to the feel of enchantment .A panoramic view of the lagoon with the darkness competing against the few lights which give reflection and the wide gaps between benches ensures your thoughts to yourself unhindered. Never met a seller or a beggar here and the shops at the far back disturbs neither .No food stalls in the vicinity since the Batti Gate is the place for a pilgrimage to one's inner soul..

Tourists cannot miss this spot when visiting or travelling through Batticaloa. The park certainly adds a little life and novelty to this town of Batticaloa and is also a spot for tourists to spend some time admiring the beautification of the town.

Adds to the beautification of Batticaloa town
Jan 2019 • Family
Batticaloa gate appears to be a modern structure built on one end of the Gandhi park. However, I learnt that this monument signifies the mooring location of the city, to which boats arrived through the lagoon in the past, in other words the gate way to Batticaloa of yesteryear!

The area had been redeveloped after extensive tsunami damage and now a leisure area.

Beautiful day in Batticaloa
Dec 2018 • Couples
If you plan to visit Batticaloa town, you cannot miss the Batticaloa Gate!... At the end of our Batticaloa city tour, my husband and I took a walk to the park by the lagoon and after that we stopped to take some beautiful pictures at Batticaloa Gate. It was the last day of the year, a sunny beautiful day....
