The whole trip was just OK. Didn’t realize how much traveling was involved, should have asked up front as it was a lot so that part is on me. About 3 hours there and back by multiple vans, boat and then another van - all very uncomfortable (I am 6’ tall). The waterfall was amazing, really enjoyed that. Bacardi Island was very disappointing. The beach and water were covered in trash and the food buffet had flies all over it. It just felt sad there. You get 1 drink ticket at lunch but it’s not good for the drinks on the bar menu. I don’t think a 14 hour day was worth 30 minutes at the waterfall. Everyone was friendly, no issues there. However we were the only English-only speakers on the tour and that proved to be a challenge. I totally understand being in a country where my language isn’t commonly spoken however the other tour guests had a Russian guide so it was frustrating that they could communicate but we could not. Just wasn’t the kind of day we expected. At the end, we dropped off 1 hotel guest at Bahia and sat around waiting for someone or something for about 15-20 minutes. Because no one spoke English, they couldn’t explain to us. I was able to tell the driver we had to be back to our hotel by 8pm in Spanish but it didn’t matter, he dropped everyone else off first and took us back last. I would not go on the Samaná day trip again and do not recommend it.

I had booked a similar excursion through another company that was canceled 3 days in a row. Marivanna tours saved my trip and got me to Samaná as I had hoped. I caught them in the lobby on the last day of my trip and they made room for me to join on the tour that day. I boarded the shuttle to Miches before I had even paid. The bay was rough for the whale watching, but we saw several smaller humpbacks, even though it poured rain on us for 20-30 min. Our guides were fantastic and made the most of the day. I was particularly impressed by Pedro, who spoke 5 different languages, accommodating tourists from nearly anywhere. Cayo Levantado and El Limón were breathtaking, the food was fabulous, and everything ran smoothly as far as I could tell. It was a day I won't soon forget and and Marivanna Tours made it happen for me when no one else would!

Despite encountering some problems on the roads while driving our vehicle from Las Terrenas (north) to Santa Barbara de Samana (south) and arriving late, Jaime of Marivanna Tours met us as planned outside their office and got us quickly on a small boat that took us out to the larger catamaran motor boat. We ended up having a great day and seeing some whales up close. For the first day of the whale watching season, I think we saw a good many whales. This is not a trip for the sea sick sensitive or young children, water too rough. Thank you Jaime for all your communication setting up our tour and for saving the day.

Had to travel miles off shore in small semi-open boats to see a couple of humpback whales. Waves were 4 to 6 feet, wind as 15 knots. Not a very enjoyable ride. Everyone got wet, only same a few whales as they came up for air. Boats looked home built. Won't recommend for the faint of heart.
