The museum-reserve includes Catherine Park with palace and pavilions, Alexander Park with palace and pavilions and Babolivsky Park with palace. The royal village was first mentioned in 1502. Here in 1711 the formation of a palace residence began. On the study of the museum-reserve and everything that includes it is better to lay at least one or two days on the study.

If you in St. Petersburg, please visit Tsarskoe selo home of Romanov dynasty during summer time. I can't even describe how much Russian Empire history is inside that place. You need to visit to appreciate. D

This is one of the places to see. luxury and splendor
but...families with very young children need to be prepared for the fact that the approach to the palace is via stairs. Although not large, but still.
You can’t bring your own stroller into the palace. The palace provides you with a stroller. That’s a plus. .take a film for the stroller so you can put your baby on it
And the biggest minus: there is no room for mother and child. To feed and change the child, if something happens, you will be on a bench where strollers are given out. ((((
And I really liked everything

Not my first visit and every time I am impressed. Love everything about it. Landscapes, architecture, all so nice. In one day you will see so many different styles of architecture and so many beautiful stunning places. I will visit it once again.

I don't actually think this is terrible in the slightest. On the contrary, it is excellent and I reviewed the Catherine Palace and Park as 5* and it's definitely THE place to visit in terms of St. Petersburg's outlying areas. However, I find it really annoying that on Trip Advisor, two identical attractions (Tsarskoye Selo basically encompasses the Catherine Palace and Park) are reviewed separately and exist as different landmarks so at least one of them should come down in the ratings. If you go to Pushkin, you will see all of this for sure and you'll have a wonderful time. So this is just a cry against the ranking system, trying to make it more efficient for travellers who might not realise that this is basically the same and end up reserving too much time for both.

The reason I give only one point is because of a terrible management. They are not interested in tourists at all. They treat you like a cattle. Two hours in line outside, a battle in the wardrobe, and a tour which is given on a level of a schoolchild repeating a boring lesson.

This is worth the trip out to Pushkin. It is easy to get there via subway (to Moskovskaya) then minibus (walk behind the Lenin statue on the big square, worth a look on its own for a view of the USSR!). The grounds look great, if it were after winter--not yet in bloom/leaf on May 2. The exteriors are well restored and beautiful, including golden domes. The interior rooms are wonderful, but limited in number, as restoration is proceeding slowly. There are really about 10 rooms in all to see, but the Amber Room is really terrific, and unlike anything I have seen at Versailles, Fountainebleau, Windsor, etc. Chinese tourist groups are a pain, as they are elsewhere...you need to maneuver around them. Going late in the day was good, as the groups are mostly gone then. Get a ticket online, leave Moscow at noon, arrive at 1, then see the palace (you only need an hour) around 230-3 to avoid the hordes.

Surprising that a major tourist attraction such as this should provide no services or information whatsoever in English (except the audio-guide), and treat its visitors like dirt. Even before entering, we wasted a lot of time getting the run-around from different windows and getting bounced around to different entrances. My husband and I had purchased our tickets on line, but not our 11-year-old because the website said children are free, and did not provide that option in the drop-down menu. We discovered, to our cost, that children do still need a ticket, but none of the assistants at the windows would sell us one. We tried to explain this in English, but got a lot of exasperated eye rolling and raised voices in response, and futile gesticulation on both sides before we realized (no thanks to any of the staff) that we were supposed to line up in the 3-5 hour queue to get the free child ticket, which defeats the purpose of buying the adult tickets on line. After much arguing they let us into the main hall, where we had to buy a full-price ticket for our daughter. Once inside, we found to our great dismay that just under half of the palace is only open to certain visitors. Of course, there was no explanation for this at the palace, and when I went back to check the website after the fact out of curiosity, there was only the vaguest mention that one wing is not open for general admission, which does not alert prospective visitors to the fact that it's almost half the building, nor does it give any information about how to join a guided tour to that section. The closed-off area starts at the midway point in the ballroom. When we asked a couple of people on the other side of the rope how to access that part of the museum and where to buy additional tickets if required, we got roundly scolded by a man who was obviously a private tour guide, who told us in a very angry and annoyed tone and wagging his finger at us, "You don't come on this side. You're not allowed.", as if he thought we were going to jump over the cordon and make a run for it. He didn't give us an explanation of the set-up, and it was only when I inquired at the information desk in the park that I understood that to see that part of the palace, you have to book a guided tour with one of the agencies in St. P's in advance. We found this whole arrangement completely baffling and insulting. The State Museum should make the situation clearer for one thing, and for another I don't understand why they don't either include the entire building on the general admission ticket (even if it means increasing the price, which we would have paid) or selling add-on tickets on site. The palace rooms were absolutely swarming with tour group to the extent that room attendants limit the flow of people moving from room to room. We fumed all day, but it is impossible not to enjoy the astounding buildings and grounds. The park is vast, so the crowds are not a problem walking around outdoors. In short, Tsarskoe Selo is unmissable, but be prepared to do a fair amount of anger management. And speak Russian.

There are several ways to get to Tsarskoye Selo from St. Petersburg. We took adventures path of public transportation. (Metro & local bus). It certainly helps if you can read the signs/stops. Let me start by saying, the beauty of the palace, garden & park will take your breath away. While you come for the palace, do check out the gardens and the little pavilion and other buildings.
While we felt quite accomplished with having braved the public transportation, we had not expected the "Russianness" of the lines. Without exaggerating it took us over 3 hours to get in to the palace. Tour busses galore. 1. queue for tickets at the gates to the park 2. queue from hell to get inside the palace to buy tickets (every 15 minutes they let 50 people inside) 3. queue to buy tickets to enter the palace and slip over some booties to protect the floor. When you have finally made it inside, they move you through like cattle with about 5 minutes in each room. While the rooms are gorgeous it was a little disappointing to be rushed that much. With that in mind, bring good shoes, a rain jacket and some drinking water.

This Palace at Tsarskoye Selo is a must if you are visiting Saint Petersburg. The sheer opulence is totally overwhelming. A lot of it has been restored after the Nazis looted it, wrecked it and generally burned parts of it to the ground.
The Ball Room is just something else, with the clever use of windows and mirrors make it so bright, the gold leaf totally tops it off!!
The 'famed' Amber Room has been recreated and is a work of art in itself, smaller than I'd imagined, don't bother trying to take photos in this room as you will be set upon by this seriously angry Russian lady who will upset your day!!
This Palace although beautiful is actually an attraction that you can spend as much or as little time as you want.
The staff are friendly {not Amber Room lady} .
On a serious note, this place is nothing short of beautiful, the facade of the building is done in a sky blue colour, the golden onion domes have a stand out beauty against this stark winter background. The grounds are extensive, with a lake and outbuildings that are standout features of on their own.
