Filled with 18th-century paintings and ornate rooms, this white and gold palace is surrounded by a 1400-acre park complete with fountains, bridges, the Agate Pavilion bathhouse and the Great Pond. Catherine Palace is unbelievably beautiful! I think the outside is as pretty as the inside. One of my favorite souvenirs is a watercolor picture I purchased outside the palace. It makes me smile every time I look at it and remember the beauty of this place. You can take pictures inside without flash except in the Amber Room. I did... More

This is one of the worlds finest piece of architecture. Catherine was truly loaded and her extravagance was breathtaking. In a country where almost everyone was a penniless peasant she spent a large fortune on this palace. a specatcle in every way, the grounds too are amazing. Not to be missed.

The tsars and their families really knew how to live. This place is a fairy tale come true with it's beautiful rooms and grounds. Think it was here we saw Chinese statues. Another place to revisit.

If you ever thought you could become blasé about gold gilt covered walks, this is the place. One fabulous room after another. WOW!

We went on a private tour in the evening where we could take pictures of the Amber Room. And watched players waltz to Tchaikovsky while drinking champagne in the Great Hall. The next day we went with another tour group for a day tour; we learned more but no pictures in the Amber Room. No room like it.

We arrived to the Palace and went to go inside for tickets but they told us it was closed. Even though the opening hours on the website and front door said it would be open. They didn't give us a reason why or tell us anything. One person mentioned that they might open again later so we spend a hour... More

If you like gilt you'll like this. Be good if owners catch on to our interest in how the servants lived and serviced such a place

Catherines Palace has a lot to see. It is very beautiful with its elaborate colourful decor. However it is even more amazing when you get to the basement and find that it was totally destroyed during the World War 2 and had to be restored to its original glory. There is a room which was covered in Amber which was... More

If you go in the evening, you can get a wonderful tour of the palace, watch a concert, see a dance performance, hear wonderful soloists and drink champagne and vodka with characters in period costumes. One of the remarkable sites in St. Petersburg.

Very ornate. Lots of rooms to see. Rather crowded at times. The gardens were also nice. good to get a flavour of how the Tsars lived.
