If you make the effort to climb to the top of the bell tower, you can see both sides of the island, but it is under the Church where the real treasure lies. Hidden away at the back of the site you can find the entrance to Circe's spring, where, if you let your imagination run wild, you can picture Odysseus and his crew being bewitched by the sorceress.

We had a lovely walk from Lakka using the Bleasdale map, it is a fine, hilly walk through the olive groves, we spotted lots of lizards sunning themselves on the low stone walls. The church itself was closed on the day we visited but the tower was open, from there you get a great view out through the trees down to the sea. The churchyard is an ideal spot for a few minutes of quiet contemplation before setting off again.

You will see signs in Lakka saying the church is open on Wed from 6pm till 7pm.eg outside the Planos office in Lakka. What they dont tell you is that the church is run by volunteers and that you must 'sign up' for your interest. Failing to do so may mean that no one turns up to openthe church. Built circa 1600 its worth the visit. Whether or not the church is open the view fromthe bell tower is memorable. But DO NOT be tempted to ring the bells!!! The steps by the bell tower are a good start for a walk to the west coast passing thru some old deserted villages 3 star for the bell tower, but 5 star if church is open

We had set out from Magazia to walk to the coast along lanes and paths. Heading north west we stopped for a drink at Spiro's Sunset Bar before reaching a viewpoint over looking a wonderful high sided inlet. From here we took a track back inland and after descending down through some olive trees found ourselves at this church. Sadly the church itself was locked but the bell tower beside it was open and we climbed to the top for far reaching views down to Lakka. Leaving the tower we followed a set of steps to the left of the church to another church (also closed) where we picnicked on cheese, sausage and bread.. Refreshed we returned by narrow lanes to Magazia.
