The best part of the monastery was the cable car ride. The view along the way was really magnificent. The wall of the monastery complex was under renovation. Churches inside the complex were OK, nothing spectacular.
Tatev Monastery by itself is nothing special, but the journey, either by car, on foot or cable car, to reach it that makes it a unique experience. The landscape is straight out of fairy tale and the sight of the monastery perched right at the...More
The drive from Yerevan to Tatev monastery is long but very scenic. Reminded me of my drive from Srinagar to Leh-ladhak in India.
The second attraction during the tour is the cableway ‘Wings of tatev’.
The monastery itself is average. There are many similar monasteries...More
We drove almost 4 hours out of Yerevan to get to Tatev Monastery but it was well worth it. The drive itself through mountainous ever changing terrain was very attractive in itself.
To get to Tatev, you have to take the cable car which is...More
I liked Noravank Monastery better than Tatev because of the deteriorated state Tatev was in but the hiking around Tatev was beautiful. You can ask the English speaking owner of the Tatev Information Center and Cafe (up the hill from where the tram leaves you...More
This was our third major monastery when we visited Armenia and it is definitely a place that we will remember fondly. At the end of one of the best cable car rides, I've taken, we reached the village of Tatev with its tiny shops, B&Bs...More
The best thing about Tatev Monastery is the view of the valley below it. Take the time to walk through some of the former monk residences to get the best of the view. The ride up on the Wings of Tatev is pretty great as...More

As I remamber there are no buses from Yerevan to Tatev. But if you planning stay for a few days you can find some hostels for example in Goris (it's about 30km form Tatev) and in Goris you won't have any problem to find a taxi to Tatev (it should cost you about 8000 amd).
From Yerevan to Tatev or Goris is about 260km. In Yerevan is Kilikia bus station - here you can find bus to Goris or Sisjan but you need to check timetable because there is only on bus a day to those place (bus cost 2000 amd).
Also from Kilikia bus station you can find a taxi driver - price from 20000 to 25000 amd.
I was driving by taxi because it's more comfortable (buses usually are very crowded).
If you have any more questions don't by shy:)
Hope you love this place as us I did.
And don't forget to visit Khndzoresk old cave village - it's breathtaking:)
