Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very very nice church, really must visit in Gyumri.
The church built by idea of old Armenian church in Ani (western Armenia).
The colors looked very beautiful with each other. (Black and orange, unique for Gyumri).

Holy Saviour's Church (Սուրբ Ամենափրկիչ Եկեղեցի in Armenian) was builded beetwen 1858 and 1872 and led by architect Tadeos Andikyan.
The design of the church was inspired from the architecture of the Cathedral of Ani.
Different colours of tuf were used (black and brown/orange).
This Church survived from the 1926 earthquake but not from the 1988 devastating earthquake.
It is still under an entire renovation process since 2002 and not yet finalised in December 2019.

The chapel on this picture is the former Russian Saint Nicholas chapel. Now it is the Saint Michael chapel.

When in Gyumri, may as well see the Church of the Holy Saviour. It is not an old structure, built in 1873. It's had a rough time under Soviet times and utter destruction because of a couple of earthquakes, especially 1988. So what you see today is a heavy reconstruction and the monument in the back commemorates that.

The inside of the church was still under renovation back in September 2019, but looking at the outside was great. On the side of the church away from the square is a photo showing the damage which happened during the earthquake back in 1988.

We walked through the town square to the Church.
Whilst it was not open we had the opportunity to walk around the structure, which is still in the process of rebuilding.
At the back of the Church is a memorial with the time the church and the town was basically destroyed by the 1988 earthquake.
A dedicated and moving to the 25,000 killed and 140,000 injured during this natural catastrophe.
A time for reflection.

Not much to see in town so our guide was really trying to come up with things to do. It needs a lot of work and it is in the process of getting repairs
