Yazılıkaya is an important part of the heritage site. It consists of foundations of the ancient temple and two chambers (actually natural halls among rock walls). The chamber walls are adorned by low reliefs with religious subjects, rather worn but still beautiful figures. These reliefs...More

Takes less than an hour to visit and appreciate, best photo time between 11 and noon, as rock art is only touched by sun light from above. Beware of self-proclaimed "cooperative" shopping, they are just factory hustlers with inflated prices, no cooperative exists in the...More

This is a terrific sanctuary which is sadly being eroded away. I've seen earlier photos and line drawings which show how badly this is now disappearing. It is really interesting to see so many representations of the gods of the Hittites. When we visited there...More

If you're visiting the region do not miss Yazılıkaya. It was the highlight of my Hattusha, Alacahoyuk trip.

Included in the ticket for the Huttusha entrance. Very different experience. The staff on site showed us around and explained everything to see. Would have missed a lot if he had not been there. Is exclusively a religious site. Glad we visited.

This is a beautiful and interesting site. It does not take long to visit. There are some aggressive sellers in the parking lot though. If you visit Hattusha don't skip this nearby site.

We visited Yazilkaya late afternoon! Allow approximately half an hour! Yazilkaya means "inscribed rock"- free entry- approximately 20 stairs to climb up and through into the cleft of the rock ( main temple area) great carvings of various Hittite scenes including the Kings family and...More

Not very big but great carvings in two different areas. Also information in English if you do not have a guide. This is the largest Hittite rock sanctuary with chamber A And B. Not far from Hattusas do don't miss it

We visited on the same day as Hattusa, which I suspect is common. What a contrast. The rock carving is similar but otherwise a much more intrimate and tranquil location

Having no choice, we went after lunch in the late spring. Can't say if there would be an ideal time as it would depend on the time of the year. It is not like Stonehenge or Machu Picchu in terms of dawn or dusk although... More
