Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Carthusian monks first established a church and monastery in the late 1300s and a town grew around it. Over the centuries it had changed hands between German and Polish control. The city is also home to a unique group of ethnic Polish subgroups, the Kashubians, who have their unique language and culture.

Having seen photos of the Carthusian church monastery taken more than a century ago, a visit to this historic church eas well worth the while. A visit to Kartuzi without some time at this church is unthinkable.

If you are traveling through the Kaszubian region of Poland I recommend stopping by Kartuzy, especially this wonderful church. Originally built in 1380, this still working parish church gives a wonderful impression of something very old that has been lovingly maintained over many, many years.

Founded by a monkish order that stressed a constant reminder of the inevitability of death, the church has many features that echo this focus on mortality. The clock in the choir loft features a pendulum in the shape of the angel of death (complete with scythe), and numerous wood carvings in the stalls and on the confessionals reflect the constant presence of death. There is also a small chapel that features several reliquaries, including the forearm bones of St Mauritius.

There is an entry fee.

There is a great cafe around the back of the church as well that serves coffee and cake.

OK, it's old, ok, it's unique still... something is missing. A very short visit is more then enough here.

The collegiate church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kartuzy is the best preserved church of the Carthusian order in Poland. The monastery with the beautiful name "Paradise of Mary" was a place of Carthusian religious life, and its pearl is the church which is a testimony of the founders' faith. The monuments of former Carthusia include: a monastery church, one hermitage, refectory, well and some outbuildings.

Liked this church with a roof shaped like a coffin and the death angel swinging above your head when entering the main entrance.

The church interior was exquisite with ornate altars and very detailed carvings on seating. The Cartusians contemplated on momento Mori - remember you will die. On the side alter there were arm bones set in two silver hands that caught my attention. The refectory cafe had excellent coffee and cakes.

This was really one of the nicest churches I have recently seen. Rich decorations, ornamental stalls, the overall composition and a hidden Gothic altar in a side chapel - a diamond.

This is a great church...you would not expect to see it in such a small lovely town. Look for the cravings in the wood which are really well made. The organ is not that impressive but the inside is very nice.

To get here you will need to do a small walk from the rynek/market (about 400 mts), it is not the church located in the center of town

The clock outside is quite nice, you will see it in the back of the church.
