Rent-a-car is easy in Romania, and a car is the best way to do the Bucovina monasteries. They are close together, if isolated, and each one has its own wonderful character. Sucevita is the largest, and one of the latest, and nothing can prepare you...More

Serene, inspiring and full of history, Sucevita Monastery has a big story to tell and how well the paintings and depictions have lasted over the centuries! A guide is needed to explain the fresco meanings but it's a hugely beautiful experience

From the beginning, the size of the outdoor courtyard, courtyard with tall walls and four towers impress you. The construction of the monastery is adorned with well-preserved paintings and, although it is forbidden, you can take some pictures without any problems. You can walk for...More

Sucevita is the last monastery painted on the outside, but it is probably the most beautiful! At least once in your life you have to visit the beautiful monasteries of Bucovina. The road is good ... go see it.

One of the main attraction of Romania, in my opinion. Skip Bran castle and come to see the painted monasteries of Bukowina/Bucovina/Moldova. Unbelievable beauty. Worth the long travel.

Sucevita - the monastery and the village too- is an amazingly peaceful place. We stayed in the village in a traditional guests house and felt fully reacharged after a week there. Fresh air all around, nice forests accesible on foot. But the pearl of Sucevita...More

This spot will linger long in the memory for the unique fortified painted monastery, and for the peace and tranquility. We arrived during a period of prayer which was broadcast throughout the complex, so it's not hard to imagine the quiet movement of monastic life...More

As with Moldovita monastery (check my extensive review), this monastery boasts a church with numerous frescos inside and out. It’s somewhat younger than its Moldovita cousin, but carries the same eastern whiff and message. The frescos and paintings are more detailed and some 40% of...More

The pickpockets act even inside the church of the monastery ! Take care of your documents and money ! Avoid crowd (some scaffoldings inside the church make the passage very narrow) ! Be vigilant if you feel that someone blocks you from moving ! So,...More

If you want to see ancient architecture, this is one of the best examples in the Moldova region of Romania. Beautiful paintings still maintained well. Beautiful gardens surrounding this monastery. Must visit if you love architecture.
