Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The beach of Agios Pavlos in southern Rethymno is truly exceptional. With its stunning natural beauty, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and golden sandy shores, it's a paradise for beach lovers. The rugged coastline and surrounding cliffs add a sense of adventure and seclusion, making it perfect for those seeking a tranquil escape. The beach is well-maintained, and the water is clean and refreshing. Whether you're lounging in the sun, swimming in the calm waters, or exploring the nearby caves and rock formations, Agios Pavlos beach offers an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend visiting this hidden gem for a day of relaxation and exploration.

No question that it is an idyllic and picturesque location. The water is clear but there is a rock shelf that you need to walk over to swim in the sea. The beach is clean and the sun beds are good and reasonably priced at 6€ for two and a sun shade.
The taverna has a very short menu with a mix of very few traditional dishes plus club sandwiches and toasted ham & cheese. Prices are reasonable and it’s okay for what it is.
The key thing is the road from Agia Galini is narrow, very steep, with lots of bends and precipitous drop offs; the condition of the road is generally good. Great care, low gears and very slow speed is the order of the day. It’s worth it though.

we love Crete and especially the south cost which reminds us of Sinai Egypt. the see is calm because of the regular northern winds and the warm water from the Libyan sea makes it perfect from late April till early November. we usually stay at the Agios Pavlos small and modest hotel with its great view and tavern. Very recommend

We spend first half of the day in Preveli and my mobile navigator offered a short route to Agios Pavlos. After 1,5 hours of driving VW Golf trhough old country rocky road (i was happy to survive there in fact!) we were quiet tired, hungry and not so enthusiastic. Main beach of Agios Pavlos, where the tavern is located, has no any distinctive features, so we decided to cross the hill just in case...On the top we found an intricate rocks and a small parking with several cars.
But the thing which waited us on the other side of the hill is trully fantastic! It looks like a big dune of volcano sand, sharply desceding straight to the sea. And it's realy high!
It was almost 7pm, so we decided not to have a swim, but lucky to see the whole spectular sun set! it was the most beatifull sun set in my life!
I Have no real words to describe the place, how mighty it is in fact - not crowded, quiet, clean, with pure sea water, a lot oа free space for you sun bath and your soul rest!
Come and see yorself this dream land!

Not so crowded, at least in the morning. Very good waters to swim in, and good views from the cliff.

Agios Pavlos beach is a very nice beach, easy accesible with all the comforts you may need. If you are more of an explorer visit Ammolofous beach which is only accesible on foot.. and there is nothing down there... it's easy to go down the sand dunes... but it's really hard to go up.... especially when it is hot and the sand s burning. So the best time to visit is like at 17.00 and then be up on the clift before sunset so you can see the most breath taking and the most red sunset in your life. Go at the edge on the left and the sand dunes are like they are on fire!

Beautiful sunsets. Either from the top of the cliff or the (main) road leading to it. Accessible via different, more challenging dirt track from Agia Galini too. Not busy at all and simply really pretty.

Bit of a trip to get here but well worth it. If the beach with the cafe is a little busy just climb the steps at the end and you will be rewarded with the quiet South coast of Crete with some stunning beaches. Get here soon as mass tourism will spoil this before you know it.
