Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I decided to bypass the tours and rent a car (cheap!) and drive myself and my friend to this spot. We want to take all the time we needed and not be hurried. It’s a pretty straight drive from Cartagena but once you get to the town, you will lose GPS capabilities. Thankfully there are people along the ya telling you that you have arrived by waving to you. Finally it looks like the road ends. A little booth and an old gate is all that remains and a few people walk out of the booth, request 5 Colombian pesos to enter. I had to ask them several times if this was the pink sea because it was oddly ominous and as we drove through the gate and across the sand, past deserted buildings on a construction site, I wondered if we would be coming out alive. We almost turned back, but then saw someone waving us forward so we cautiously continued. Once we parked, it was just a matter of politely declining a tour guide, and walking a short distance to the “pink sea”.
Now, it’s not really a sea and depending on the day, it is not likely to be as colorful as you had imagined. It really isn’t very pretty around there - bulldozers and mounds of salt. And you can’t really get into the water much. It turns your feet orange! But we managed to hope across a couple of wooden planks to stand out in it for a photo. I was able to clearly see why the tour only took you there for 15-20 minutes. That’s all you need and it’s really about a photo op... nothing else remarkable about the place.

If you're in the area, go for it, if it takes effort getting there, skip it. It is pretty bit its just a place to take a few photos and that's it. There s nothing around, to do, see or eat.

This is a must-see if you are in Cartagena. Check ahead for peak colour times; we were told January to March. The water really is a deep orangy-pink. You can’t swim but you can go in the water up to 2 metres from shore. Incredible! The day trip is usually combined with a stop at the mud volcano, and a couple of hours at beach.

Please, please... do yourselves a favor and don’t blow time and $ on visiting this place. Firstly, since COVID, it is closed to the public. Secondly, it’s not pink right now (March 2021). Third, there’s absolutely zero around the area to do as a back up.
FYI...we went on a “tour” that is advertised on TA and Viator. Complete scam and disappointment

This pink sea is amazing and beautiful... It’s different from other places where you can visit. Although you can’t take a bath, it’s nice to take pics.

A different experience, the clearer sea was not as pink as I imagined, but the landscape and the experience of being in a quiet place and helping its friendly and always good-natured residents is fun.

The salt works are closed and abandoned, nothing to see except dirty water. Don't trust the internet, they mark opening hours and that's wrong

terrible experience when entering the town they make you stop to supposedly give you information but they do it in a bad way they assure that the cost is 15,000 pesos (4usd) to enter since in addition to the entrance they assure that they give information about the process and they also tell you the history. The guide that corresponded to us seemed to have invented the story a little and as for the process of collecting the salt, he was completely unaware of it and finally for leaving the vehicle lying on the street they charge you for parking without being notified in advance. In general, a terrible experience. It's practically a robbery

Hi I saw that you drove yourself to the pink sea. I was wondering if there was anything along the way you recommend seeing or stopping at? Was there a nice beach or anything to swim at? My friends don't want to go to the volcano but since we're driving all the way to the pink sea for a ~20 min stop I would like to make more of the trip. Thanks!!

When is the best time to visit? Is the pink color more vibrant at certain times of the day?
