I had time to kill so headed out for an afternoon - 2 hours each way on good roads (even the 28km of dirt road near the lake is fairly good). Camping overnight is probably better if you can handle the flies. The lake is...More

Totally worth the trip there for an overnight camp. Best time to experience the sculptures and photography would during sunrise and sunset, so definitely need to stay a night. There is a basic toilet at site. Perhaps because I visited during Nov, the amount of...More

Beautiful spot to camp with drop toilets. You need to be completely self sufficient to camp here. Bring your own water and food. The light is beautiful in the sunset/sunrise/evening for photography.

When I drove for a couple of hours to visit the Angel of The North, one of Antony Gormley's amazing works in the UK I thought I'd done well. This time it was a 1600 km round trip and well worth the driving! We arrived...More

We had a wonderful hour or so at the Lake. We were a grandmother, 2 mum's and 2 kids. We had a 2wd car. The trip out from Menzies took about a half hour on a predominately sealed road. The unsealed portion was in great...More

We drove to Lake Ballard in a 2 WD car , road is orange gravel & was easy drive. Also depends how wet the road is from rain fall. Locals very good at advising on road conditions.
