We were in Kalgoorlie on Good Friday & EVERYTHING was shut, so we went to Lake Ballard and we are so glad it did. It was an easy drive (we just have a sedan). Only last half from Menzies was gravel, but good condition. Because it had rained 10 days before. there was ankle deep water further out and so... More

What an absolute lovely place to visit .. can get a little slippery around some art forms and some are out in the water .. but was well worth fighting the flies to see the art formations .. make sure you have a fly net to wear and old shoes (or even bare feet).

Needed to see. 2.5hrs out of Kalgoorlie on mostly good road. Free bush camping n edge of lake. Massive lake with 51of these interesting people sculptures. Recent rains meant lake was muddy. Best no shoes. Viewed about a dozen or so in an hour and half. Good at sunset

Lake Ballard is a must see when you visit Kalgoorlie. It is only a few hours easy drive out of Kalgoorlie via Menzies. Menzies is worth a walk around as well as it also has brilliant statues that depict e history of the town. Lake Ballard is an amazing, shimmering salt lake that is sprinkled with statues. Each statue is... More

We really lucked out when we decided to take a tour out to Lake Ballard from Kalgoorlie with Baz from "Big Sky Red Earth Adventures". An extraordinary experience seeing the Antony Gormley sculptures dotted across the salt with red tracks made by footprints leading from one figure to the next. With the heat rising the horizon was shimmering and the... More

We took the detour to Menzies and Lake Ballard a few weeks ago as part of our drive around Australia and we were very happy we did. Looking for way out of the way experiences and travel, this certainly fit the bill as there is a great small community here in the outback with not much else around it for... More

White occupation of the Menzies area dates back about 100 years with the main activity being centred around the Railway line and Mining. Transportation has changed from rail to mainly road and so the local town is struggling to attract business. The statues at Lake Ballard, are different being re-proportioned representations of locals. It is worth looking at this attraction... More

We found the "Inside Australia" sculptures at Lake Ballard very thought provoking into there meaning. The isolation of small towns in Australia, the isolation of individuals within small towns. This world class display brings a lot, to The True Meaning to living in such a uninhabited diverse country. Well done Anthony Gormley and the 2002 Festival of Perth Directors for... More
