The most beautiful castle at Lake Constance with authentic interior design and romantic park grounds. You will feel like you've been transported to the time of Queen Hortense and her son, Napoleon III. This is where the last French Emperor spent his childhood! Several personal items create an intimate atmosphere. Almost as though the former residents of the castle had only gone out for a short walk in the stately park.

The mansion where Napoleon III grew up has been restored and provides an excellent idea of what it must have been like at that time. The house itself is situated on a large estate containing a chapel, vineyard, flock of sheep, several gardens and a...More

The setting is splendid--on a warm sunny day you almost feel like you're on the Mediterranean rather than a bluff high above Lake Constance, in the lovely gardens surrounding the house where Napoleon III grew up. The significance of the structure (more a fine house...More

This is a nice mansion with nice displays which is well restored and overall nicely done, but it is essentially just a house of napoleons family. There is nothing about military history or achievements of Napoleon, just a nice house where the family sometimes lived....More

I have rarely come across a grand home which allows you to get up close and personal to the furnishings and objects d'art. But this is the case with Schloss Arenenberg. There is a rope across only one doorway. As for the rest of the...More

"Schloß Arenenberg" is rather a manor house than a castle, overlooking Lake Constance. Hortense de Beauharnais lived there with her son Napoleon III. who grew up there. Here he wrote a few military and political papers, planned his failed coup in 1836 in Straßburg, and...More

Self guided tour of three floors of the 'castle'. More like a mansion. Beautiful scenery. Well preserved home of Napoleon. Nice playground on site for the kids to get their energy out before going on the tour. There is a cafe onsite that sells food...More

Small complex sits overlooking the lake below. The museum itself is small, but the grounds are large. The museum is 4 floor house with a lot of history. Has restaurant and gift shop too. Can be done in 30-45 minutes.

We spent an afternoon hanging around this wonderful place, admiring many of the exhibits and reading a lot about Napoeon and Hortense...... It was my third or fourth visit here
