About
By Appointment Only: We are unable to accommodate walk-in visitors. Please schedule your visit prior to visiting the farm. Book a tour and come meet your local sustainable farmer & our cows! The tour can change as we’re a working farm, but you'll come along to shadow us. Typically, we'll take you on a scenic drive to the pasture where our cows are grazing and there, in the center of all our cows, you’ll understand why we’re a sustainable dairy farm all while petting our cows and experiencing each of their unique behavior. You'll learn how to herd and help us walk the cows from pasture to the milking barn (just like you see other farmers do on the streets throughout the island - the so-called "cow jams"). You can see the calves and learn to milk a cow yourself by hand. We end atop a scenic hill overlooking the ocean with a picnic composed of our homemade artisanal cheeses, jams, wood fired oven bread and the fresh raw milk you just milked. Call or email for a reservation.

My 8 year old daughter and I visited Gena and Joao’s farm this week and it was hands down one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Azores! These experiences are truly what travelling should be about. We learnt so much and had the best time. I have such an increased appreciation for all the work that goes into dairy farming. Gena’s homemade cream cheese was the best I’ve ever tasted (bring extra cash because you can purchase some if you like!)! My daughter keeps asking me if we can go back and that she wished we could have stayed longer 😊. Highly recommended!!

If you're interested in learning and experiencing the life of a sustainable dairy farm on Sao Miguel, get in touch with Gena and Joao for an unforgettable time. You'll not only be visiting a beautiful part of the island and spend time with happy animals, but most importantly, you'll connect with genuine farmers, who run Amago Farm in Achadinha with passion and love. From the very first email conversation with Gena to meeting them and spending time with them, it was a real and authentic conversation. You won't feel like a tourist here but will know you are directly contributing to a sustainable, regenerative farm on this magical island in the Atlantic.
Be sure to purchase some of the milk, cheese, honey, jams and anything else they and their friends produce, it is all delicious and will add so much to your trip!

A unique and amazing experience on Sao Miguel with beautiful hosts, Gena and Joao. Our family visited in early September and ranged in age from 2 to 70. For each of us it was one of the highlight of our trip to the Island. My husband grew up milking with his family, so this experience was extra special for him.
I had a few questions and Gena answered them promptly and once booked, we received an email that explained all the details for our tour. Gena is a gracious host and her love of The Farm radiates as she shares her's and Joao's story and the future journey of expanding The Farm. Joao is so passionate about sharing The Farm experience, as well as sharing how they strive in every way possible to make their products the cleanest and healthiest possible.
After meeting the "girls" in the field, they were brought in the barn, fed and then ready to milk. We were encourage to feed them and then all given the opportunity to milk one of the cows. We were then treated to a delicious picnic at the top of a mountain overlooking a view that was almost impossible to believe was real - green grassy fields, overlooking the beautiful ocean waters. Atop Azorean blankets, fresh milk, homemade cheese, homemade fig jam and freshly baked bread were all served and enjoyed greatly by our family. Gena makes all these goodies and then offers them to purchase and take home with you to enjoy after your tour as well.
From start to finish, we savored every minute at this magical place and truly hated to leave.
Our day on The Farm will always hold special memories in our hearts and if you are thinking of booking, you don't need to think about it, just do it. I promise you, it is an experience you will love as much as we did!
Obrigada Gena & Joao!

From the first call I placed to the farm to book our tour the service was excellent. I spoke with Gina which was very friendly and helpful. Upon meeting Gina and her husband at the farm we were also happy with their hospitality. The tour was very informative and hands on. We also got to try the freshly expressed cows milk, their cheeses, jams and fresh grape juice. It was a truly unique experience.

Our family loved spending time with Gena and Joao. Our children (both 4 years old) were completely captivated by our gracious hosts and the daily activity of the farm. Whether we were herding or milking the cows, there was a meaningful role for each of us in the activity. To top off the experience, we enjoyed fresh milk, cheese, and jams as we watched the sun begin to set over the horizon. Gena and Joao have designed a truly memorable and educational experience and have big plans for the farm in the future. We will visit them every time we are on the island - and our kids will never forget the first time they milked a dairy cow.

My family and I really enjoyed getting to know Gena, Joao and their milk cows. My teenage boys loved getting to drive the cows to the milk barn and their turn at milking the cows. And we all enjoyed the delicious fresh milk, cheese, breads and jams served at the end of the tour. Gena and Joao's passion for their farm and sustainability was inspiring to experience!!

This is a hidden gem. Best family afternoon we had in ages hosted by genuinely nice people. All five of us (2 adults, 1 teenager, a pre teen and a 10 year old) loved it and we all agreed it was the highlight of our trip. The cows are picture perfect, well cared for, happy and healthy. We got to pet them, herd them, milk them, all while learning (and laughing hard) in the process. The afternoon finished with a picnic with a view with fresh milk and home made products. All delicious and no leftovers. Don’t think twice about it. Book it, you won’t regret it!

The Farm Azores is a beautiful, small working dairy farm run by a lovely American-Azorean couple, Gena and João. Our farm tour was a beautiful experience. We were a small group of three and enjoyed a relaxed time with Gena and João, learning about their farm and their aspirations to grow and expand. We then toured the farm, spent time with their herd of cows at pasture, walked the cows down a country road back to the barn, learned to milk the cows, then enjoyed a delicious picnic of raw milk, homemade cheeses, jams, and breads, all while enjoying a gorgeous sunset overlooking the farm and the ocean. A truly lovely time. Highly recommend while on São Miguel.

Gena and João were wonderful hosts for our family's afternoon on their farm. They are passionate about their work - preserving and improving the dairy farming culture of the Azores and promoting health through real foods. We really enjoyed getting up close and personal with these well cared for cows on a working farm, but this is so much more than a petting zoo experience. We valued the great conversations about food, sustainability, and the challenges of running a farm. João and Gena were happy to give us in-depth answers about their farming practices, making the visit so interesting and informative, and giving us insight into the everyday life of this island. We loved seeing the new milking barn and getting to help drive the cows down the road from their pasture, as well as our beautiful sunset picnic with delicious cheese and jam. Our sixteen year old had a great time, and I imagine young kids would be over the moon about the chance to join the life of a working farm! This was definitely one of the highlights of our Azores vacation. Thank you Gena and João!
