Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There isn't much of the "castle" that remains - just a few bits of wall and a large hump of ground so as a historical site it doesn't offer very much and isn't worth a special trip. However if you are passing or are in Kefalos then it is worth a visit for the views which are pretty good. Walking up to it from the coast would be pretty hot in summer but we had a car so it was easy to visit.

Great view from the castle but not much to see. Was hard to get to walking as there isn’t really a path and, at times, we were always on the road. This was quite unsafe as there were a lot of bends on this inclined road.

Top of the hill in Kefalos so if you are passing park and run up top. Free and good job too as absolutely nothing there except a couple of rocks and a flag pole! 2 deep holes not fenced off so keep hold of your kids. Don’t get too close to edge either as winds get very strong and gusty. Not worth the detour.

Thursday 8th October and we visited the hillside town of Kefalos where the remains of this ancient castle are situated.

Known as Kefalos Castle or Burgruine von Kefalos. Dating back to the Byzantine era with oldest reference of the castle dating back to 1271.

It's strategic position, ideal for defending from attack, commanded views over the Bay of Kamari, Aghios Stefanos and the island Kasti.

An earthquake in 1493 caused major damage virtually destroying it, which resulted in it being abandoned by 1505

For those intrepid visitors that are brave enough to clamber over rubble and building remains to get to the top, they are rewarded with great views.

There is nothing at the top apart from a rusty old flag pole and a concrete bollard upon where someone has painted a picture of something that resembles a skunk.

We walked up here having parked in the town, the views are spectacular but that is about it. Not worth a special trip but worth a visit if passing.

Not much 'castle' left to speak of really but the view afforded from its position on the hilltop is well worth it. Quite a steep walk from the coastal resort of Kefalos but in my opinion well worth it.

We walked to the castle ruins from Kefalos center. The views of the beach and the harbour are well worth the walk. However, local buses and tour companies offer an easier route up there. Great photo opportunities and some lovely tavernas near by.

Have been before , walked from Kardamena one year (Take water with you) lovely walk up there. Have driven there three times. generally re visit each year. Guardsman on door on entry last year, gave us a cheeky tipple of OOzo, for a donation entry fee. Transpires he gives up his own time to repair bits at the castle and maintain it, he was working on the walk way to the entrace. So good on him.

Not much of the castle remains due to earthquake damage but it's easy to climb to the top and you get some truly amazing views of the surrounding area and beaches. Must see.
