Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a beautiful long ride to get to this area. The main square is pretty and lively many people selling things. Lots of shops to but handicrafts mostly genuine - some cheap imports. Mostly good. Prices are super. Found things for 1/2 what they sell for in the main towns. It's hard to park ans navigate streets but not too hard. Worth the drive

Beautiful little village just 30 minutes from Villa de Leyva. It's probably one of the top 10 villages in Colombia. It's very well kept, very colorful, very friendly and plenty of shopping. You can find everything pottery, souvenirs, woodwork, clothing, hats, but the specialty is definitely the pottery.
A great place to spend half a day walking around from shop to shop. Parking is very easy to find at one of the local garages and very inexpensive. We paid less than $.75 for an hour.
You can take a quick break at the coffee shop right off of the square. Very inexpensive.

The central plaza is attractively paved and has some interesting clay statues of monks and workers in the ceramics and clay industries. The church wasn't open while we were there.
The other attraction is shopping, suposedly to include local handicrafts. The stores are so similar that going to many is a waste of time. Very little quality local wares were available, with the exception of pottery.

This place was probably beautiful once, but now it's just an overcrowded tourist destination. The crowds push through the streets and you see the most rubbish for sale.
We were told that you can still buy authentic handicrafts made in Colombia here.
Unfortunately, the first poncho I bought had the Made in China label in it and it continued like that.
We found this detour completely unnecessary!

I am reviewing this "thing to do" as encompassing exploring the whole centre of town and not just the plaza itself, since other reviews and pictures already posted seem to take that approach.
Ráquira is one of our favourite places we visited in Colombia. The town is a centre of pottery making and has been since pre-Colombian times, the name itself apparently referring to its pottery industry. The town centre has a nice, typical plaza with attractive, small old church and a few other nice buildings plus some small statues. The town's architecture is mostly modern and simple, with few buildings that are old or particularly attractive or distinctive in of themselves but the whole place is colourful, the buildings painted brightly and decorated with things like small ceramic lamps made in the town, or festooned with things for sale such as colourful hammocks. The town is friendly, pleasant, and lively. It is the whole ensemble combined with the lively atmosphere, plus the great shopping for extremely inexpensive items, particularly locally made pottery of all sorts, that makes this such a wonderful place to visit.

To take certainly few pictures. The place is simple but full of colours. Locally art, you have to like but anyway you have to see. Somewhere between authenticity and a small taste of disney

This village has certain magic when you come in. Colorful houses and lots of handcrafts. But there's only one street full of this magic. There are, also, few places to eat and grab a good coffee.
