Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Travel On tour company was fabulous in arranging my visit. The hotel was not yet open for the season and because it was a day trip we visited from 10am to 1pm but we had a great picnic, saw many birds and above all enjoyed the quiet. No other tourists so it was heaven.

We stayed in Gun Galuut Natural Reserve for two days in August 2011. The ger camp, we stayed in, is operated by Steppe Nomads (http://www.mongoliagercamp.com). The camp is almost 2.5 hrs away (~120 kms) from Ulan Bataar and is situated right at the bank of river Kherlian.

The views from the camp are amazing and there are a host of activities to chose from. We enjoyed horse riding, archey and kanoing on the river. The horse ride to a nearby hill was amazing and we spotted wild goats along our way. Our guide Tongthok was amazingly friendly.

The staff at the camp was very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed an mongolian style barbecue at the Beer - Barbeque Garden very close to the river. The food served on other days was also pretty nice.

I would definitely love to come back to mongolia and to this absoultely amazing camp in another 10 years.

We stayed in Gun-Galuut National park for 3 nights. We were very spoilt by the host family who took fantastic care of us. There was never a dull moment - from learning how to cook dumplings, to horse riding and visiting other nomadic families, we fell into our very comfortable ger each night, tired but having had a wonderful day. I wished I could have been there longer! We arrived just at the start of the tourist season last year and were the only ones there. It was so peaceful, quiet and the scenery was astounding. It was the first chance I had to see the stars in the northen hemisphere - and with an unpolluted, moonless, cloudless night - what a sight!
The ger was very comfortable, warm and the beds were great after a day of horse riding. The outdoor squat toilet was always clean and I never noticed a bad smell. The host family were wonderful and we were made to feel very welcome in their ger. We had a driver and guide though Selena travel. The driver was safe and the car was clean and comfortable. There was no problem stopping off along the way when we needed to stretch our legs. Our guide was very knowledgeable about her culture, country and religion, was a pleasure to talk to and was helpful translating our requests to the host family.
I would reccomend Gun-Galuut National Park without hesitation, keep an eye out for the mountain sheep!

You are hit by its expanse, its tranquil expanse, stretching as far as the eyes can see. BREATHTAKING! No, ASTOUNDING! No, SPECTACULAR! No, HEAVENLY!
I can't decide but the sight of the reserve made me teary-eyed. Not because of the fields of wild onions. Not because I didn't know where to point my eyes.

Gun-Galuut's beauty was indescribable! All I know is that I will be going back and going back and going back...

The park is a bit over 2 hours out of UB. Stayed at the Steppe Nomads camp (nice ger with power supply in ger to recharge batteries + food was good - although westernised). The river is beside the camp which can arrange fishing, kayaking, rafting (or in some places just go for a paddle/swim). The camp can also arrange other activities such as horse/camel riding, mountain bike hire etc (fairly cheap to do). Plenty of hills and plains to hike - you can go anywhere in any direction and for birdwatchers or those who just like wandering - there are a couple of lakes full of waterbirds on the way in. Great place to unwind and walk around and enjoy nature for a few days

Spent two nights here on a journey around Mongolia.

The experience whilst staying here were excellent - tracking Agale Big Horned sheep and storks, visiting a family that herded yaks, cattle and sheep, a wonderful scenic environment.

The ger was clean and comfortable. The washing and sanitary facilities OK. The food not so good.

We had a business trip in UB and wanted to add a few days to visit the national parks near the city. Gun-Galuut and our stay at Steppe Nomad Ger Camp was excellent. The camp provides activities to take advantage of the area. We went bird-watching at the nearby ponds, rented horses, woke up early to spot wild argali sheep in the nearby valleys. Our guide arranged a visit with a local herding family and we had a wonderful time meeting the parents and 4 kids and getting a peak into their daily life. If we had had more time, we wanted to rent kayaks to explore the river - but alas, we were only there for an overnight before we had to return to UB and leave Mongolia.
The Steppe Nomad camp itself was a great experience and we would recommend you stay there as part of the visit. The staff was friendly and hardworking. When we arrived, the 2017 Great Mongolian Bike Race had its 4th stage ending up at the camp as well so the place was fully booked. It was exciting to meet mountain bikers from all around the world. The gers were full so were put in the luxury cabins up on the hill (a decadent treat from our ger stays at the other parks, because these rooms had their own bathroom and hot showers!). The rooms were very clean. Despite being completely maxed out, I found that Steppe Nomad handled the crowds with efficiency and professionalism on par with any resort. Dining went smoothly and the food was delicious.

Good 20-25 minutes off the main road, the reserve has ger, and new construction accommodations. In a reserve close to wildlife, river. Not many trees though. Gers need some upgrading and maintenance. Bathroom facilities were kept clean. Friendly hard working staff. Nice family manages it onsite. Recreation facilities available at reasonable prices. 2.5 hours by car from UB. Dining room is large, food can be average quality.

This small park is absolutely a must-go, a must-do ! It is true Mongolia in a nutshell. The scenery is amazing, stunning, touching, quiet and poetic. I will never forget that place even 10 years after my visit. And if you are looking for a place to stay Steppe Nomads ger camp is an obvious choice. Go, go, go for it !
