Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mother in law took my children with their cousin for a train ride. She bought tickets then was told to go and wait by the train and they would send the driver. After 15 mins had to take all the children back round to the cafe to ask where the driver was. Their response was they were busy and they had forgot to tell the driver and when explained this was the second time this had happened their response was don’t come again. Terrible service, terrible attitude. And she’s still waiting for her £8 back!

Hi Jenny, unfortunately your mother in law hasn't relayed the full facts of the event to you.
She came and shouted at a member of staff for making a genuine mistake, she threw the tickets at her and called her a 'stupid cow'. She defended her actions in front of the children as it didn't matter as 'they weren't her kids'.
Abusive behaviour towards our staff is not tolerated and this was why she was asked to not come again.
Many thanks.

We have been coming to Ruswarp since 2013 when our daughter moved to Robin Hoods Bay. Have used the nearby cafe many times, and have seen the Miniature Railway in action , but have never had cause to use it. All that changed in 2015 when our Granddaughter was born , and now with her being over 18 months old "Nanna and
Gan Gan" had the chance to take her on it over the Easter Holiday, and she absolutely
LOVED it.! I've seen gripes in other comments about the charge of £2, but this is nothing compared to the joy on her face as the train rumbled round the lovely scenic
track. An absolute joy, and a " Must" for Grandparents to visit whilst up in this lovely corner of Yorkshire.!

Great mini railway and at only £2 pp it's very affordable for whole family to enjoy. Smashing tearooms close by, and rowing boats to hire if you fancy a little sojourn on the river!

Always meant to visit the miniature railway when up at Whitby visiting friends but never got round to it. Glad we did this time. This is a brilliant train ride for the kids and the £2 is well worth all the effort it must take to maintain such a train and track. The kids absolutely loved it and the ride is quite long really. The man who drove the train was really pleasant too. I'd much rather pay for this kind of ride than waste it on a 2 second fair ride. Keep up the good work !

Ruswarp is a nice little village with pleasant walks along the bank of the River Esk. The miniature railway lies along the road to Sleights and has its own large car park .The railway is set in very pleasant grounds with plenty of space to picnic or walk through the trees to the little tea room ,offering drinks and food at very reasonable prices where you can enjoy your meal and feed the ducks while watching the boaters on the river.
Great day out .

Even though others rated this as expensive and not long enough I thought that £2 for a go on this train was worth it, very enjoyable for a quick way to fill some time

We took our grandchildren who love trains. The ride around the gardens is delightful and to see the children point out the odd things hidden amongst the foliage and on the lawns was great fun. Shaun the sheep, duck families.squirrels, hedgehogs and lots of characters from childrens television are there to be discovered. Well worth the two pounds per head for an entertaining ride.

We had a lovely time on the miniature railway. £2 a go, but plenty to see on the way, with carefully positioned toys and ornaments, and a lovely café serving excellent and well priced food too.

we are going to be staying in Whitby on holiday with my disabled Dad and 5 year old daughter...just trying to plan accessible activities...he has Parkinson's disease and is visually impaired. walks with a stick and has very bad mobility but wont go in a wheelchair.. is this place suitable for him? are there any steps etc?
Written 28 May 2017
There are no steps but he may have trouble climbing aboard the train, we also have a cafe on site which has a small step but it shouldn't be a problem.
