Morning visit
Oct 2019
Worth a visit inside whilst you are at Flatford just to take in the atmosphere of family life centuries ago and if the guide is on hand do have a chat as we found it very informative.

Intersting history of life in a tiny cottage
Aug 2019
The whole of the Flatford is really picturesque and well worth a visit. It is possible to see where John Constable painted the Haywain.

Maybe of more interest to children
Aug 2019 • Couples
The cottage was very small but quaint. It was interesting to see the low ceilings and crooked beams. The National Trust has tried to give a flavour of what life was like for the inhabitants in the old days: this is mainly accomplished by placement household items and a made up diary of someone who lived there. It didn’t really add much for me but I imagine the diary boards and household pieces might be interesting to children of around 7-10 years, especially if they are studying the 19th century. Spent less than five minutes here.

Step back in time with a farmers wife’s diary
Jun 2019 • Couples
Visited the cottage whilst looking around Flatford mill. Mind your head as you go in and once inside look out for what appears to pages printed from the diary of the lady of the cottage describing life back in the time of Constable.

A taste of history
May 2019 • Friends
Part of Flatford Mill experience, well worth a visit. The cottage takes you back to years gone by, with many people crammed into such a small space shows how lucky we are now

Seeing how locals really lived not so many years ago, how lucky we are today. Good for adults and children

Very interesting cottage. Great tea room.
Feb 2019 • Couples
The cottage is very interesting and sits on the river so there are lots of opportunities for lovely walks in the area. The tea room was really busy but the food was great and service very efficient - scones were fresh, soft and very tasty. All the staff that we met were very friendly and cheerful.

Classic NT visit
Oct 2018
We walked along the river from Dedham to Flatford Mill, which is a really nice way of approaching the Mill.
Usual NT shop and informative boards as the setting is open air, (no charge).
You get a really good feel for the way Constable lived and painted here.
