Attractive gardens and Schloss worth visiting

We came to Ludwigslust to do family history research, and were pleasantly surprised to find this lovely palace. We arrived on a Monday and both the palace and records office were closed, so we spent several relaxing hours in the stunning baroque gardens. The canal system is amazing and incorporates many water features, including the large cascade, pond and 24... More

Ludwigslust Palace was a disappointment. Most times, historical places of interest will "preserve history" as the cornerstone of the attraction and draw for tourists. Unfortunately, Ludwigslust Palace is focused on preserving the wallpaper. The interior is not original with very limited furnishings of the period and perhaps one of the more recent historical features being completely overlooked. This is the... More

The Schloss is not as interesting as the Schloss at Schwerin but even so it well worth visiting. In good weather the grounds and gardens landscaped in a naturalistic style would be the highlight of any visit. The cafe in the Schloss is also recommended for coffee and cake.

All the interesting facts during the guided tour about all the interesting people who wandered about this palace so long ago come a bit too quick to get an image of who was doing what where when why and with whom. But keep walking through those many rooms to get the picture and then come into the huge garden to... More

it is a pity that there is no money to renovate the palace to its former glory. so it is nothing to compare with a proper british castle. but the gardens are well maintained and kept.

Great organized tour!! Lovely gardens, great church across on the other side of the castle. This is where the Mecklenburg Schwerin clan used to live, before they moved on to Schwerin.Believe it not Ludwigslust was american for a short while after liberation, but handed over to the russians. Poor suckers!!

The palace inside isn't that impressive and one should pay the charge only if one doesn't have anything else to do on a Sunday and the whole tour takes about 30 minutes. However the gardens behind the palace are lovely, as are the Catholic church and bell tower. You can wander around for hours and there are a few things... More
