The museum is a very well organized description of life in Japan 1000 years ago. Many (but not all) of the exhibit components have at least some English descriptions if you do not speak Japanese. Great restoration work!

Stunning display of buddha, bodisatvas, and interior replica of Phoenix Hall - you can actually see what it looked like when first built. One of the best places visited in Kyoto area.

We visited here after looking at the temple. The building is a must see for contemporary concrete building lovers. The displays are very beautiful, consisting of fixtures and carvings from the temple. No photography allowed inside the building.

This small but modern museum part of the Byodoin temple complex (and included in the same entrance ticket) has a very impressive and well displayed collection of artifacts from the temple. Recommended !

Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi
Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist
attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens,
temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for
strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine
itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the
mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers,
