Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

At 3652 metres above sea level and at the base of the Sabancaya volcano, this church has a great history - with more recently surviving an Earthquake.
Built in the 1600's, this white washed church has so much to offer. Inside there are the most stunning exhibits as well as an atmosphere that is second to none.
It is somewhat of a museum inside with beautiful pieces from the past.
The older lady at the entrance does expect to be paid 2 soles for a photo. Smile and pay as she's a lovely woman after chatting with her. Interesting life.
Check out the doors - big and brilliant.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.

As many tourist groups, we did stop at Maca to stretch out legs, to enjoy local version of pisco sour, to look at the pretty St. Anna church, to browse at the local market. The church is OK, but there are more things around - colourful statues dedicated to the history of the country, some quite difficult to interpret. And a very expressive monument dedicated to the Incan wars with the Spanish Conquistadors.

Most tour buses or taxis stop here en route to or from the mirador Cruz del condor, to allow for some photo opportunities for locals in costume with their cute alpacas or llamas, and their handicrafts for sale. Like most little towns here the Spanish with their catholic churchmen built disproportionately large white churches on top of Inca sacred sites.
Really enjoyed the little plaza and very friendly locals.
They have little £££ so take small change to pay to pose with the ladies and their animals.

Stopped by on our journey through the Canyon. From the outside, possibly just another church in a small Peruvian village, but the inside makes it special. What a beautifully decorated interior. Well worth a detour from the main road.

I would not make a detour to this place but if you are passing in town, it is worth a visit. Small but very nicely decorated. It seems most people stop in this town for the market and a drink.

About fifteen minutes after passing Yanque you come to the village of Maca. In the shadow of Sabancaya Volcano. The church of Santa Ana is similar to all the others in the canyon, white washed with twin bell towers. The tower on the right recently had to be rebuilt after the original collapsed in an earthquake. Out the front of the church you may see people parading birds of prey and charging you for photos with them stuck on your head. This is a cruel practise so I urge people not to fall for this. The birds are suffering.

What a wonderful church. Very sad to hear that it virtually destroyed in the 1991 earthquake. So pleased that it has been restored and whilst small is very special to a small community which was hit very hard

A classic town church, not much to see or do, pretty minimalistic and straight forward. Shops outside which are a little more interesting.

The church is grand , full of gold leaf and some strange looking icons. However go stretch your legs down in the square and look at the colourful statues. Why is this young lady carrying a cross between a mexican wrestler and a soldier - why has another a teddybear on her back - it is not Paddington - we need to know.
