This triumvirate of forum temples: the shell of Juno, rustic Jupiter, Minerva so lovely in body & mind. They form a lasting image of Roman architecture in Africa in semi-ruinous/quite preserved harmony maybe more than any other. Walking from the gate they are in view from the mini-medina-like Byzantine forts (view from the top of a wee wall scramble), the... More

This is one of the biggest and well preserved archaeological site in Tunisia. A complete historical city to discover. A fora, temples, theatre, public sauna, a gym. Most of the buildings are standing still... It's a shame that Sbeitla is very underrated comparing to other archaeological sites in Tunisia. A must see if you are around.

Wonderful. It was empty of tourist and was amazing to walk around, see the ruins and take some pictures. The ticket entrance is 7 TND. There was a guy, responsible for check the ticket, sending old things and coins inside the site. I thing it was illegal because he did it out of view. I didn't buy. The place is... More

We had a great time walking through the ruins. There are some locals that hang out in the ruins who offer information or answer questions. Will even point you in the right direction when lost. We had one about half way through join us for a bit and gave us some explanations of what we saw. We gave him a... More

Great archeological ancient Roman site. Breathtaking but you will get bothered by people trying to sell you 'original' Roman lamps. Usually fairly quiet here and is supposed to be out of bounds at the moment as it is close to Kasserine.

Absolutely beautiful Roman site, with everything you'd expect to find (hammams, theatre, church, etc.) It's rarely visited and is situated in a small town, so it's very peaceful and quiet. If you're visiting Tunisia and want to go out of the big cities, this a must!

Most people visit this Roman Ruins site on at our of Tunisia where you have limited time to explore. We are travelling independently so had as long as we wanted to wander around, explore, be surprised and enjoy this beautiful site. There are tauts who will offer to sell you a tour or some ancient coins. A firm but polite... More

This was another site that I visited in the early 1970s when I was hitching across North Africa. I returned last year with my wife as independent travelers, hiring a car. We stayed in a good local hotel and in the morning we had to rouse the site guardians out of bed. This is another massive Roman site that is... More

Rainy day around Tunis and looking for some thing new, even if somewhat old, Sbeitla looked just the ticket and with apple map directions via Tripadvisor set off. It may have helped to speak a little French, but Sbeitla is not behind a Tunis Suburb Metro station as suggested. Had a good time wandering about the picturesque back Streets of... More

This enormous site was very peaceful and quiet when we were there. It has all the usual buildings you would expect in a Roman town, but there were one or two more interesting elements. I found the industrial sized olive oil production area fascinating and there were some beautiful mosaic baptisteries. It was also interesting to see the terracotta piping... More
