The area
Neighbourhood: Bondi Beach
An iconic Australian suburb, Bondi Beach is famous for its fantastic beaches and views. Once the domain of backpackers, hundreds of tourists from all over the world descend en masse to Bondi in December ready to enjoy the "Aussie summer". Bondi Beach boasts impressive ocean views all along the many restaurants and bars on Campbell Parade. Wake up early and take a dip in the surf before walking the scenic stretch from Bondi to Coogee Beach. Stroll through the Saturday organic markets in North Bondi or grab some fish and chips and relax in the grassy area opposite the beach. For more upscale cuisine, head down to Hall Street where a range of new eateries have recently opened. Just make sure to save enough energy for the buzzing nightlife Bondi Beach has to offer.

There are 3 levels to this BEN BUCKLER HEADLAND viewpoint (BEN BUCKLER is the northern headland for BONDI BEACH**++).
- the top one at the end of BRIGHTON BLVDE which for want of an official name I’ll call BBTOP. This has arguably to best views of sun-up and the coastline to the south because of its height. Beach views are restricted by buildings. Not much space – apartments crowd this area and parking is difficult (better but not great at lower levels).
-the mid one called SAM FISZMAN PARK**++ – best accessed at the end of RAMSGATE AVE. As parks go it is not up to much – no swings or kids’ playsets, no picnic tables, no seating, no shade trees, no parking lot (there is a small one a level down at RAY OKEEFE RESERVE – 15 slots only) – what it does have is good views of BONDI BEACH**++ and the coast south++.
The lowest level, RAY OKEEFE RESERVE++ is also best accessed via RAMSGATE. This too has good views plus ok access to sea-side rocks, the most seating and a small parking lot

Raiting wise, coastal Sydney abounds with good viewpoints and these 3, although good are no better. Thus my AVERAGE rating. For an overview of BONDI BEACH and the coastline south, the area around Sth Bondi’s ICEBERGS CLUB and MARKS PARK is the equal if not better.

TIPS:
- this used to be a popular overnight spot for backpacker vehicles. But now parking slots are very limited (ditto in surrounding streets) and there are prominent “NO STOPPING 11PM-6AM” signs. Council rangers are fairly vigilant.
- a good spot to watch the sunrise++. I arrived 30 minutes before with no-one about, but sun up saw about 20 viewers perched on the rocks++. Sunset would be okay too – except for the strictly enforced “NO ALCOHOL” policy. Jeez, a beer is a must at sunset!
- All levels are interconnected although the road from top to middle is blocked to cars by bollards – wheelchair people will have no problem with these, but may have to detour a bit down RAMSGATE for the lowest RAY OKEEFE RESERVE.
Able bodied types can also access via trekking the rocks from the rock swim-pool at the northern end of BONDI BEACH. This can be tricky at higher tide levels and/or in big ocean swells.
- access to the rocks from RAY OKEEFE for fishing, diving etc is easiest by a set of stairs++ in the north-western corner down to the fishing boats++ in back of the rock platform. Look for the aboriginal rock carvings near the top of these stairs.
- TA reviewers’ pictures are worth checking.

CONCLUSION
Just because I rated only AVERAGE doesn’t mean you should not visit. Although average by Sydney coastal viewpoints standards, this place is still pretty good, well worth the short 400m trek from the must-go section of NORTH BONDI BEACH.

This is one of the areas to get good photos while doing the coastal walk. They have water points along the way as well.

This is a great spot for panoramic views. It is high and it is not so easy to get to. For those who manage to get there it is quite rewarding. The views are absolutely amazing. You can see the whole of the beach area and even further beyond. Not to be missed.

Everytime I go to Bondi I always go to this end of the beach as it is very accessible and also has a few eateries close and 2 small pools (kid friendly) as well as the beach . You can park near the North bondi surf club and go to the end of the esplanade and you can see the whole area quite well. Good for people watching it has outdoor showers but no toilets in the immediate area. You can go up to the lookout by car but the parking space are quite limited so you have to be lucky. But there are usually a lot more down closer to the beach. It venturing out to the point it is quite challenging and watch out for what the waves are doing as the larger ones can wash a long way up onto the walking track over the rocks. Not too bad for most people but definitely no heels etc flatties or jogger thongs.
