The Mitchell Cottage was 10 minutes away from the B&B we were staying in so we thought we would drive up and see it. Good decision. It is amazing that so large a family could live in such a little cottage, but nevertheless it was...More

I'm not sure how long the cottage has been under repair. The view from the cottage is still worthwhile on a good day, but disappointed not to be able to see inside the cottage. Hope it is reopened soon.

So much to take in here - the site itself is visually stunning with views up and down the valley; the stonework is beautiful and the story behind the cottage is fascinating. An excellent description and history is available in the Guide to Otago Goldfields...More

Amazing backward journey. This is a visit back in time. makes you appreciate life in times gone by and how a family managed to live in a climate that is hot in summer and can be very cold in winter

What an amazing historical example - I could live in this place if I put plasterboard inside! The work is incredible.

showing my future husband the historic features and fantastic views. Depending on what season you visit grab a drink from speargrass inn and make the most of the fresh air

Without a doubt this is the most beautifully built stone cottage I have seen in NZ. It's just a short walk from the main road and the nearby Paddy's Cottage where we stayed. Well worth a visit.
