I’ve waited 6 months to use a voucher I bought just before lockdown for the salon and an afternoon tea. I was happy to wait with what is going on but when I tried to contact the reception of Wynard Hall to ask what I should do because the salon (which is different to the spa) was still closed till after the expiration date I didn’t get a response. I tried 3 times - so much for excellent service. I finally got hold of the spa who I will say seemed efficient and they booked everything in for me with about three weeks notice. The treatment was booked for this afternoon but they rang and cancelled late this morning, two of the staff were off but I’m guessing this wasn’t the first day for at least one of them so I’m suprised they hadn’t made arrangements to cover. I was already travelling a decent distance and as the voucher only covers weekdays, and the place is only open Wednesdays to Sunday, so even less time to use it, I’ve taken a day off. The apology was extremely hollow and there was no offer to rebook or sort anything out. I had to ask when I might be able to reuse it and the woman snapped I had three months. Unfortunately as Christmas is coming I might not be able to come in that time. It’s not really the level of service I expected from a ‘premier’ salon like this and certainly wouldn’t entice me to pay full price or in the hotel.

Returned to the Wynyard Spa today for their Signature Treatment which was so relaxing with therapist Nicola. I first used the Spa back in January and have had continuous treatments with Nicola, who takes care and attention with you, the client. I came out today feeling revitalised after lockdown all thanks to Nicola, what a star and asset to Wynyard.

Having had regular pedicures at this spa prior to coronavirus lockdown I was dubious about returning. Having read measures put in place to re open safely I booked a luxury pedicure with Nicola. I was very impressed with pre appointment measures including questionnaire to fill in 48 hours before attending spa. On arrival staff welcomed me back with relevant ppe and took my temp before taking me to treatment room. Nicola made me really welcome and having a pedicure in such relaxing surroundings helped me relax straight away. As always the results were amazing and It felt like I’d got back some pre lockdown normality.Thank you wynyard hall spa staff. You ve thought of everything and I definitely recommend anyone to give it a go. I’m sure you ll be made to feel as safe and as welcome as I was. See you girls in a few weeks.

The changing rooms are particularly bad, really shoddy furnishings like a big cheap nasty bin right by the door, damp walls, peeling paint, knackered old school style lockers etc. The actual steam room/saunas/hot are lovely and the lake views are fab. We found the service to be mixed, a lovely young woman with brunette hair showed us round and was really warm and welcoming, however the blonde girl on reception who sorted the bill on our departure got it wrong and when we said this she was very abrupt, she grabbed the phone to call the hotel to check what we were saying was right which was done in what we felt was a very rude way, when she confirmed what we said was right she didn't even apologise or acknowledg the misunderstanding, a real shame to end on that negative, in hospitality you have to slap on a smile and bring positivity and happy vibes to your guests!

I had booked myself a treatment for the end of January in December as a treat for my birthday. At the beginning of January I contact the spa to add my mum to the booking & cream tea. I was asked if they could move the time from 11:30 to 12:45 to accommodate us both. This was fine and I was advised to ring back to make payment prior to the day. I rang the spa a week before we were booked to pay for my treatment & confirmed that the time was 12:45. My mum contact them the following day to pay for her treatment & was told again the booking was for 12:45, cream tea at 12. On the day we arrived 45 minutes prior to our treatments for our food. After waiting at reception for 5 minutes no one came to us, I therefore had to go looking for a member of staff to let them know we had arrived. I was very rudely told ‘ you’re late & your treatment time has passed it was 11:30’. I followed the receptionist to the desk & explained my booking information. She apologised & said she had no one available to do the treatments now & she could not explain what had happened. She offered for either 1 of us to have our treatment & the other sit and wait ( which was ridiculous to expect someone to sit and wait) or we could both have a ‘ complimentary’ express pedicure. We had drove 40 minutes to the spa and so I felt I had no choice but to have the express pedicure or it would have been a wasted journey. The ‘ treatment’ lasted all of 20 minutes & was literally cuticle removal and nail polish, which chipped the day after. We decided not to stay in the spa for food as I felt upset & annoyed that my birthday had been ruined by this point. I was told the manager would ring me to arrange a refund for our treatments. She contact me the following day, apologised & said she did not know how the error had happened. I asked for a refund & she asked me to consider returning (no discount offered for the inconvenience) as I was being polite I said i would discuss with my mum but still asked for the treatment money to be refunded which I was told would take 3 days. 5 days later we have had no refund, I have had to contact the spa again and have been told by the manager she thought I was going to ring back to say if I wanted to re book my treatments! Quite frankly after our experience I wouldn’t return to this spa if it was offered free, never mind to pay full price. This was something I was really looking forward to after having 6 stressful months pregnant, taking annual leave from work and it was my birthday. We drove 40 minutes there, 40 back for a 20 minute terrible appointment. I left feeling more stressed than before I went. I would advise anyone thinking of booking to go a little further for that spa experience. It was a wasted day & wasted journey with many missed opportunities to redeem themselves.
