The temple is 2500+ years old and is significant for Jains. There accommodation and food facility also in the campus, as per Jain norms. The temple is grand and peaceful. Since it is on ground floor, so there are no stairs too.

We stayed in osian around 70 kms – 01 hour drive from Jodhpur for the camel rides and this beautiful ancient temple with intricate carvings, which has importance to jains. Was lost in the beautiful carvings as camera is not allowed inside.

Osian (Osiyan), in the Thar Desert, is an ancient town in Jodhpur District of Rajasthan in India. There are many beautiful temples in this Osian oasis. To give you an idea as to its size it is a panchayat village in Osian Taluka lying at 69 km by road from Jodhpur, on a diversion Jodhpur-Bikaner Highway.
There are about 15 Jain temples in Ossian. The most important and fascinating one is that of Mahavira temple, who was the 24th (last) Jain Thirthankara. This temple is of more importance to Jains because the Oswal Jains, who are rich trading community among Jains, came from Ossian. That is how the name Ossianis got their name to this town. It is said these people are generous in the matter of donations to the temples. The maintenance of the temples is also owing to their active participation.
This temple is vested by thousands of devotees every year. You can see here the eye-catching configuration made of red sandstone. It is well known for its beautiful carvings depicting different stages of the life of Lord Neminath (22nd Jain Thirthankara). There is 32-inch tall sculpture of Lord Mahavira seated on padmasana. The centre of the shrine contains a sanctum and three galleries. The pillars and walls display the images of various gods and goddesses. It is a magnificent and wonderful scene to enjoy.
Osian is a place where Brahmans and Jains come together and lived together, but what we see here today is the destructed remains of Brahmanical and Jain temples of 8th to 11th centuries. It was a religious centre in the days of Marwar of Gurjara Pratihara dynasty. For Maheshwari’s and Oswal Jain community people this is an important pilgrimage centre. The Mahavira Temple here was of 783 AD and an important tirtha for Jains.
The entrance to the temple complex has carvings of beautiful maidens on it. The roof is also beautifully decorated. The terrace on which the temple stands is built up of sandstone. The main Mahavira temple has an inner sanctum and three balconied windows. The main porch of the temple has beautifully ornate pillars. And the second porch, which was later added on, has more stylish construction. The other Jain temples are quite smaller and are uniform to some extent. Only little differentiation can be seen among them.
Osian - The ancient town of the Thar Desert was a great trading centre between 8th to 12th centuries AD. Today it is a desert oasis with 16 Brahmanical and Jain temples. These are beautifully sculpted and designed, and most of them have stood the ravages of time. The highlight of this place is its camel ride at the time of the sunset.
Jodhpur can be reached by Air, Train and bus. You can also travel around Jodhpur with a bicycle. Jodhpur has a number of restaurants and eating-places where you can order for Indian, Chinese, Continental and Mughlai cuisine. Here taste the famous Kachouri (a snack eaten with chutney). If you love sweet eat laddoos, specially made to melt as soon as you put it into your mouth. You will love to drink buttermilk in tall glass, which is called as 'lassi', of which you may be familiar.
Jodhpur is a developed city. There are many Hotels to provide decent accommodation. If you are looking for economical or low budget accommodation doesn’t matter it is also easily available in Jodhpur.

Jain temple, Osian, Rajasthan is about 80 Kms from Jodhpur, About 30 percent of the distance is poor Roads, but the sculptures in the temple more than makes up for the rough ride to the temple. I liked this temple more than the Sachiya Mata Temple(Hindu Temple) Some how I felt that the Mata Temple had lots of Jain Elements that made me think that probably it too was jain temple once.. Now converted to a Hindu temple. We visited the temple in the evening and was totally taken by the intricate designs and carvings. The finish and the detailing of each element was so exquiste.. And I would recommend a visit to the temple complex

We had planned only to see the Sachiya Mata Temple, but our guide recommended that we came here as well, only a few hundred metres away. I'm glad we listened to his advice as this was just as fascinating as the Hindu temple. The guide explained the Jain religion and we witnessed the Jains at worship.
The carvings here were quite exquisite and even better than those at Sachiya Mata.
Unlike the Hindu temple, here was peace and tranquility with absolutely no other visitors except the faithful.

The Osian Sri Mahavir Bhagavan Jain Temple is situated 65 km from Jodhpur and around 1-2km to Sachiya Mata temple of Osian. Lucky our driver knew the directions to the place.
The entrance is unassuming but once I entered the temple, I was stunned to silence at the intricate worksmanship all over the 8th century temple .
The Main Sanctom Sancotrum and temple is surrounded by around 8-9 smaller shrines in the inner courtyard. Each of the these shrines have beautifully crafted statues all over the walls . The only sound in the silence was the greeting from parrots !!
In the inner courtyard, behind the main sanctum santorum, there are beautiful paintings explaining the life of Lord Mahavir and Jain culture,
If you are a lover of art work like me you will end up spening more than 1 hours in this 8th Century Jain temple.
Inside the main Sanctum Sanctorum, there is a beautiful Gold Coloured Lord Mahavir Deity in sitting Padmasana posture. So calm that I stood transfixed !!!
Don't miss this temple...
Trip tips 1- Plan your trip to Osian by car so that you leave Jodhpur by 2:00 pm and reach around 3:30 pm.I takes around 1-1/2 hours from Jodhpur. You can then visit Sachiya Mata temple, Lord Jain Mahavir Temple and take a camel ride at the Sand Dunes of Osian watching the sunset. You can leave Osian around 5:30 pm to reach Jodhpur City back by 7:00 pm.
Trip tips 2 - .The road to Osian from Jodhpur is pretty good but infested with Cows. So drive carefully.

These sculpted temples demonstrate the long traditions of temple architecture in India history. If you're aware of the history behind these temples, their significance becomes even stronger. The temple is also active, so feel free to politely and humbly ask people questions!

After the sachiya mata Darshan we went to visit the Mahavir swami temple which is like 5 mins walking from the mata temple. We went at the right time when they were bidding for that lucky person who would get the Aarti & mangal diva. We won one of the bid & we got the mangal diva. It was quiet enchanting , coz they gave a nice pagdi ( like a cap) & a dupatta & head band for the women. This was a good experience. After that we booked our selves in the adjacent sanatorium with AC rooms. The rooms are decent but hot water in the morning is a challenge in your room coz they use water heater. There is breakfast facility available in the temples bhojanshala.
Please remember that if you staying at the Mahavir temple sanatorium yr cabbie might tell u tht the by-lanes are narrow & tht it's walking distance etc so take yr luggage & walk. Pls do not listen to him. It's surely a 5 min walk but not possible to walk with all ur luggage. It's a small detour but it's for our benefit. Infact there is a big compound to park your car too.

This is Very Beautiful Temple in carved Red Stone contrary to Jain Marble temples of Ranakpur , Dilwara or elsewhere. Intricate Designs have been carved inside and Outside of temple. Special Mention to Toran-Dwar & Kalp Vriksha. The Main temple is surrounded by small temples dedicated to Other Hindu & Jain Gods & Saints. Worth a Visit. Road to Temple may be Uneasy for someone who is not accustomed to Indian Roads.
