Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the moment of our arrival my wife and I realised we’ve made a mistake having CL included in our package but it was too late to return to the boat!
The island was overcrowded by trashy tourists, too many vendors, loud music and trash everywhere!
There wasn’t a single spot in the beach where we could seat down to enjoy the view without been disturbed by vendors selling cigars and alcohol, loud music blasting from under every parasol, it looks mandatory for Dominicans to bring amplifiers and Speakers with them... and the music, the louder the better!
Long queues to restaurants and no social distance was observed. Not a good food variety on menu and all restaurants serves exactly the same food.
The trash produced in the island stays in the island. Not only organic but plastic, glass and polystyrene too. The place has been completely ruined by the Dominicans!
After lunch we headed straight back to the pier and even our waiting time was dreadful.
Many boats arrives at the same time and boarding was a nightmare. It reminded us scenes of a film where people try to escape
from a country and the last option was that
boat!
Never again!

We spent the afternoon at the public beach when we were in Samana during a cruise. The beach is fine but nothing special in comparison to other Caribbean beaches. It was a busy day and hundreds of people there. That didn't really bother me as the kids had fun. However, it was annoying that during the 3 hours there, we were constantly offered cigars and alcohol and there were also men with parrots who wanted to take pictures. I'm perfectly aware that this is common at a lot of public beaches in the Caribbean, we had just never experienced it before and found it irritating.
We wouldn't do Cayo Levantado again, next time we'll try Playa Rincon.

We arrived individually in our rental car. We didn't take the boat in Samara, but 2 places further on along the road to LAS Galeras there is a boat harbor on the right. After tough negotiations we were taken there and back by boat for 2000 DOP for 2 people. In Samara the tourists are really "ripped off" - prices of 4000 DOP per person were quoted! It's only 10 minutes by boat to the island, it's up to you what you're willing to pay. On the island itself, we were almost alone. Only one person came running up and wanted 400 DOP for the loungers, we ignored him, we paid on the boat. :-)
Drinks at the island bar or from the lounger guide were "astonishingly cheap", we've experienced other prices here. You can happily pay 250 DOP for a PINA COLADA in the fruit. There is no additional 18% fairy tale tax and 10% service charge, it's already all in.

Beautiful island. Unfortunately, most of the island is occupied by a large resort. But the beach on the west side is beautiful and large. It is very busy and you are one of the many visitors who want to enjoy the beach and the sea. The waves are good so that was fun for the children. You don't need to take snorkeling gear with you because you can't see anything because of the sand and waves.
You pay decent tourist prices for a bed. The bar is not too fast, so make sure you get a drink as soon as you walk off the boat onto the beach because afterwards everyone is ordering cocktails and it will take a long time before it is your turn.
Nice, but very touristy.

When someone hears that this is a paradisiacal place or sees photos, they have a certain degree of doubt so as not to generate too many expectations, but I must say that it is what it promises.
It is a place that we visited in a relatively low season (end of April) so we were able to enjoy it in peace, renting chairs for 5 u$s each and being able to use them as long as we wanted.
The transparent water is something incredible, you have to be careful with the stones at the bottom since in some points they are somewhat slippery and in others, some stones are somewhat "sharp."
The place has a shopping mall where you can buy many things from the place, they are not only purchasable in this place, but it is a collection of different items.
There is a central bar where you can buy drinks, the price is touristy, but it is not really excessive in contrast to the good time you have, I mean... who doesn't want to have an ice cold beer with your feet in the sand looking at paradise?
It is somewhat annoying when people approach you wanting to take photos of you in exchange for "collaboration at will", this is abundant.

Very nice beach. Can be reached by boat in about 15-20 minutes from the mainland. There are enough water taxis. Not very flexible in terms of price (>20 USD p.p.)
If you go early you can also secure a spot on the small beach bays. The "main beach" gets full pretty quickly.
Infrastructure is OK. Pricewise too (5 USD for a 625ml President Light is OK)

The photos I had found, do not honor the place... it is much more wonderful! Care in detail, friendly staff. The distribution of the building in harmony with nature. The natural products that provide us, as a protector, moisturizing cream and exfoliating cream. The various spaces designed to enjoy sea and pool. The piano and sax in the afternoons. The gastronomic magic.

Presence of jellyfish!!!
Be careful, it burned adults and children... at the local infirmary the advice was vinegar and lemon (be careful with lemon + sun = burn).
There was no local information, it must have been because of cold currents!!! But be careful!!!

Surely if we closed our eyes we thought of a postcard beach, we would imagine one like this.
The beach is very beautiful, fine sand, hammocks, vendors... but what spoils the day is that they don't tell you (at least that's how it was in October) that the water is full of jellyfish.
All of us who agreed could not stay more than five minutes without being bitten. Fortunately the jellyfish were small, to look for the positive, but this spoiled the day at the beach.

Are you able to take a ferry to Cayo Levantado from Samana without having to book a tour or stay at the hotel on Cayo? I am seeking to spend the day along the beaches of Cayo Levantado, do so at my leisurely, but at the schedule of the ferries only. I would prefer not to have a book a tour with a company and just ride the ferry over, lay at the beach, then ride the ferry back to Samana. It has been difficult to find any information specifically on this.
Thank you!
