Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We drove the treacherous road to Fodele for the Museum of El Greco and we were not disappointed. It is a small museum housed in what they believe was El Greco's birthplace and childhood home. The display is stunning and the location is peaceful beyond belief. There is a tiny byzantine church (Holy Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary) at the entrance way that was there when El Greco was born. Here you an see the influences of the byzantine icons in his art. The church is open on the weekends with a very knowledgeable guide from the office of antiquities who provided a fascinating history of the church and the iconography.

Hardly a museum. Just a random exhibition of modern copies of some El Greco's paintings, in a renovated building believed that might have been his birthplace. Almost no information about El Greco's work. Not worth visiting, just a waste of time.

Driving from Heraklion towards Chania, a great stop for a brake is the village of Fodele, the birth place of El Greco ( Dominikos Theotokopoulos ) a great Renaissance painter. Nice country side around the small museum, a very old Byzantine charch to admire its old frescos, see copies of El Crego`s paints on display. There is a cafe bar to enjoy a cold drink or coffee. Worth a visit.

The first pictures we see on the site, it is a small church very friendly. By account. Regarding the museum it is a catch snatch two small pieces with copies of painting of El Greco. Most are in Spain or in some museums. 10 minutes to visit

I feel bad giving the museum a bad review. It is an exhibition of poor copies of paintings with little information about El Greco. It was small and didn't cost much to enter, so it was ok. It is good to support the local community.

Museum del Greco in Toledo shows you the image of a painter who was ahead of his time! Unloved in his time but discovered around 1900 again. Reason: his colour, his paint strike, his technique. You want to see a fantastic painter ahead of his time, then visiting this museum is an absolute must! Other paintings are in the cathedral and the museum of fine arts of Toledo.

My artist wife was keen to visit this place. We had a beautiful walk in, and was greeted by a friendly lady who helped us with our child’s pram. The museum was peaceful and informative. Perhaps the interpretation could do with a little better flow. We enjoyed refreshments in an idillic courtyard adjacent to the building.

It is not that the museum has much for its art, knowing that all the real work is in Spain, but the little sppot is beautifull, and you can understand the artist felt zenn enough to make his art. outside is a litte snackbar, where you can drink the most lovely orange juice.
