We decided not to do the 5 hour hike at low tide and took a tour with Gannet Safaris. It was a beautiful ride with wonderful scenery. The gannet colony was the highlight and it was fantastic. Recommend this to anyone with any interest in birds.

The Gannet Colony Tractor Tour is must do - with a fun, informative and a beautiful ride along the beach before you get to the bird colony. It is a full half day activity so plan accordingly. The tour starts with an hour ride along the beach at low tide to reach the end of the peninsula where the gannet... More

Near Napier this side trip was amazing. I went to the beach side location and bought a ticket for the tractor ride along the beach at low tide. What fun! Good for all ages and a great time was had by all. The Kiwi's make this fun with their good nature and humorous spirit. It's also very informative on the... More

It was a long drive to the location. but what we got to see was a beautiful gannet colony. It was stinking due to the poo but you can't do anything about it.. Its their house. LOL

We accessed the DOC gannet colony at Kidnappers Cape by using the Gannet Adventures open top tractor tour. The colony is accessed by a steep uphill walk onto the cliff top. Depending on the timing of your visit you will be able to observe adult and fledgling gannets at close quarters. Just check the available information to discover how many... More

A day of adventure on a tractor driven dray. Dashing into the sea, learning about the rock formation, a testing walk up a hill, even a swim if you want, not suitable for very small children or the infirm, but enjoyable for everyone else. The gannets are amazing.

Even if you are in Auckland for a day, don't miss the Gannet Nesting Colony! There are times of the year when it is emptier, and times when there are more birds. Some birds (old and single) remain year round, but even in April we were able to see lots of young birds strengthening their wings, the mating dance, and... More

Thanks to David, our coach driver, the 4 hour trip was worth every cent. Very informative, and the drive up to the Colony spectacular. Fantastic to get so close to the Gannets and their fledglings who were trying desperately to take off.
