A 2.5 hour tour starting at 11am and costing 1500lk pp, the tour started with an informative history of tea growing in Sri Lanka followed by a visit to the working factory and then a short walk through the plantation where tea growing was explained.
As an organic tea plantation, they use agro-forestry to boost natural pest control. This is very cool. Also, the estate is run as a cooperative and revenue is shared by all employees.
The tour was followed by tea tasting of 6 teas, this was unhurried and fun whilst cleverly refreshing us.
We stayed on for a very tasty local lunch of pumpkin soup, freshly made roti and coconut sambal.
There is also accommodation at Amba and it’s on the Pekoe Tea Trail and the staff can answer your questions on the surrounding hikes.
Next time, we will stay at Amba Estate.Written 23 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Two reclining Buddhas are within the safe recesses of the caves. Outside is a tall standing Buddha carved onto the wall. Remember to remove shoes when wandering these religious grounds.Written 5 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kiron S32 contributionsMany times the impact of the worship is more felt in these types of historic & old churches.Probably the mass times tend to be flexible even though the main mass is not too prolonged. A lot of visitors too turn up on a Sunday.Written 10 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

First of all we appreciated Hiran being available at short notice for a 6 day trip which was so good we booked him for the second week too! We planned our trip from day to day, Hiran showed much flexibility and provide several unexpected discoveries and provided helpful advice once we got to the major monuments and activities. We also stopped off at a local market, a wholesale market, a small fishing port -just watching daily life go by. We got to meet the family too! Many thanks for driving us through the mad Sri Lankan traffic and letting us discover this beautiful country in a relaxed way. You are in our address book and will be happy to recommend you to friends and family too! Take care Hiran!Written 23 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
